I have a GE Profile built in with trim around it. It has given up the ghost after nine years.
Shopping around they all seem to be cheap throw away units.
Any suggestions?

I've had good experience with KitchenAid and Whirlpool.
At one point, almost all microwave oven guts were made in Korea, probably China now. Outside of commercial grade, I guess these are made to toss after a few years.
Pity Speed Queen doesn't make kitchen appliances.

GE Profile
We bought one of these after Ida with the built in air fryer. It's been great.

GE Profile
We're in the process of replacing every GE appliance in our kitchen. The quality has been crap.

another vote for Panasonic .... I've had 2 that have each lasted close to 20 years

We've got a built-in that's been acting up. Only some of the buttons work. It's almost like playing a game to use it.
How complicated is it to pull & replace one of these?

Not too complicated. But you almost have to buy a trim kit with the new unit as they are typically specific to the microwave.

When did that happen? Been looking at replacing electric stove with a GE gas one. May have to reconsider

Another vote for Panasonic. Whatever there "inverter technology" is works way better than any other microwave.

Most microwaves come from the same factory
We found evidence that most countertop microwaves sold in the US are manufactured by just one company, Midea. We confirmed with Midea that it makes and sells Toshiba, Comfee, and Black+Decker ovens. We’re also confident that GE, Whirlpool, Sharp, Breville, Insignia, Magic Chef, Hamilton Beach, and others also sell microwaves that were originally built and probably designed in large part by Midea, though all parties that we contacted declined to comment. But here’s why we think Midea is the original manufacturer.
The first clue is that at a given capacity, there are usually at least four different models with the same wattage and dimensions. They have identical contours inside the oven and identical patterns in their ventilation grates, too. They sometimes have the same FCC ID (to be sold in the US, any piece of hardware that can create radio interference, like a magnetron, needs one). And some of them say plainly on the rear label that they’re manufactured by Midea.

ItzMe, my GE Profile built-in microwave is still working after more than 20 years. I had it repaired a few weeks ago after it started acting up. My first thought was to buy a new one, but I could not find any brand that had a microwave that would fit inside the trim piece. Plus, the trim for the new buit-ins did not match the color of the rest of my appliances. So, I took the microwave to Gonzales New & Used Furniture and Appliances and they fixed it the same day for $75. It works like a charm again.
They are located at 12282 Hwy 431 in St. Amant, LA. 225-644-1477
They don’t do house calls.

If all else fails, call Kathy at Stanton’s Appliance. (225) 275-6220
Make an appointment, she will set apart time to help with the microwave problem.

Had a guy come work on mine a few years ago. He said he had been doing appliance repair for about 30 years. He pointed to a metal shield inside the microwave and described how it went from a sturdy piece of steel that was welded in, to thinner metal, then thin, cheap metal with 4 screws, then 2 screws, etc., until now it is damn near a piece of foil pie plate material that is sitting there unattached and ready to rattle its arse off if slightly out of place.
