2 years from seed. You've probably got a year to go. But I've seen them fruit sooner too in ideal conditions.

it grows in spurts. It will set a dozen new buds and send out branches then after a while it drops any new tips and takes a break. Then does it again

It's growing roots. Every time it expands the root base it pushes more foliage. Highly invasive and vigorous plant in climates that don't freeze. It's a weed when we are warm. Never takes a break.

pawpaws shaded. Boy Scout style. I didn’t have any shade cloth so I used a roll of landscape fabric we’ll see how it does
I left the benson and Shenandoah uncovered they don’t seem to mind the sun. Keeping the bed watered is a chore right now

I had a charter trip today. When I got home, I checked it out. Starting to unfold. Looking a lot like the last one.
I read where if the tree stays more in shade, the red will be more bright and brilliant. My problem is I just don’t have a lot of shade area. My lanai is fairly covered in furniture and outdoor kitchen so I only have a place there for a few plants underneath there. I have my lipstick in there and I’m not moving yet. So I have moved the flamethrower out by the pool in the area where it’s getting a decent amount of sun. I did that a little bit at a time. It’s been out there a few months now and is doing OK but I can definitely tell that the fronds are getting a little burnt in the sun every day. But it’s gonna be red.

Pretty plant. Palms are very calming to look at too.
Here’s my tropical problem child. This shampoo ginger is finally starting to grow…this is year 3. Adding another 1/2 day shade helped a lot this plant hates direct sun.
It needs watering every day because the bed is on a hard slope, and needs heavy feeding. All of this is likely the circumstances of where I planted it. But I will not give up until I’m showering with it LOL

Looks and sounds a lot like my shell gingers. Same. They hate the sun but mine get some sun so they roll up during the day at times. They also are some thirsty plants. I honestly dont even think they can get enough water. They are growing like crazy too. I have a bunch of them in my yard. I planted some in between my palms on the side of my pool cage to fill the gap below them for privacy.
And they like to be fertilized. I dont think I am feeding them enough.
