I’ve moved everything I have in a pot to the shade. Doesn’t matter what it is. This heat with no rain is unbearable in direct sunlight. The light is still plenty bright

Yeah, filtered hose water is fine. Also needs to be in a pot with a peat-based soil for acidity. But once it's potted it's set. Just have to water it. Will fruit in the shade too. But no, you can't plant it out in the yard and let it do its own thing. Can't even do that in south FL.

Did the same with all my small mangos. Those new leaves can't take the 100F+ sun until they have more roots to support them.

Yes, starfruit has one of the highest leaf/stem recycle rates of all fruit trees. I go out and pull the yellow ones off daily to keep it looking good. As long as you see new growth pushing this is perfectly normal.
You can do the umbrella thing or simply put the whole tree in the shade. Starfruit is one of the few tropical fruit trees that will thrive and fruit just fine in the shade. Like anything else, you get more/sweeter fruit in the sun. I have to water mine (full sun) every day without exception in this heat when there is no rain.
Got any blooms or fruit set yet?

Yea the kari was blooming at set fruit but had dropped many of them ..maybe heat and sun? Hopefully will be happier with a bit of shade. It’s really cool how it blooms off the branches and trunk directly!
Hoping to get some edible fruit this year!
In the fall does yours go dormant? Was reading it is technically an evergreen, but doubt that in our climate.

Mine stayed green and did not lose its leaves over winter in the greenhouse. That is what you want because they set 2 crops per year. Summer crop will be ripe in August-October and the next crop ripens around February-March.

Got my 15g Sabara jaboticaba uppotted to 25g. Hoping this thing will start fruiting within the next year or two. The larger pot should help.

Should I be letting my branches droop as much as they want? I have it tied up to try and keep it more vertical. Now that I'm thinking about it I probably should let it droop so the inside gets more air/sun.

I let mine droop to shade the pot. As soon as I see those low drooping branches starting to flower I cut them off. Weight of the fruit will make the branch drag on the ground.

You cut them at the trunk? I just cut all the ties on mine and its half the height now lol. Pot is shaded now, though. I have 4 branches split off and none want to be vertical.

Starfruit has a crazy growth habit so you need to do some branch selection. Can you post a pic? When you make a cut it usually sends out 3-6 branches from that site in various directions. You then select from there.
ETA: the things grow so damn fast you can really just kind of wing it. Whatever you cut off is replaced in under a month.

Got my Chamaedorea radicalis yesterday. It was in box a long time. USPS delivery was very slow. It still looks OK and the roots were still moist in the bag. I am going to put it in a 7 gallon pot today with gary soil
My flamer thrower new frond is open. Its no where as red as my last one and I dont expect it to last more than a few days. I hear the more it is in the sun, the less red it will be. Seems to be the deal for me. It was in the shade when the first one opened up and it was more red. Now its in the sun.
It already has a "tab" growing between the new frond and the last one. New spike coming on already.
