Bought a house built last year. Noticed there isn’t crown molding, except above the range exhaust. Is crown molding outdated now? I’m not sure what to think.

No, it is a way to cut costs.

I wish I had it. We have an older house that didn't have it. The ceiling is not as high as I would like to justify installing crown molding, because it would make the rooms feel that much smaller.

We went cove molding throughout on our 2 year old home. Check it out, it’s a clean look that we are happy with.

I think crown molding adds to a room. I bought my house from a guy who did the crown molding himself. I like it. Some examples below.

Dining room - same installed in each room downstairs and a modification but similar upstairs

This. A properly trimmed house will cost $$$$ but will without a doubt be noticeably “better”.

Trim/finishings are what separates a spec home from a custom home. A spec home will have the bare minimum.

All that ornate shite with triple crown is done. Cove is the thing now. Or simple 1 pc crown

Some view it as a more modern aesthetic. I spent quite a bit on our millwork. 8' 1 3/4" solid core doors, full custom local built cabinets and 12x 1" baseboards etc and not a single piece of crown in our house other than the cove on our cabinets. Your sheetrock finishing has to be better at the wall ceiling intersection if you have no crown to cover it up also.

I don't see the point doing it in every room but I do like it in some rooms. White crown and baseboards in some rooms really does trim them out nicely but having it in a hallway, bathroom or even kids bedrooms seems like a waste. I like a shaker style crown with simple millwork.

It's timeless and it hides joint mistakes.

I have a 50 year old house with 8’ ceilings everywhere except the living room where it’s 9’. I installed crown molding in every single room after we moved in and it looks fantastic while making the house look newer. I highly recommend it.

It's been outdated since 1952 but the masses still like it. So it's not not done anymore. Like a previous poster said, cost cutter.

Damn 2 upvotes to 9 down. Baws mad they paid for that triple. I sell crown every day. Downvote all you want. I don’t even stock enhancer anymore. Spend your money on a nice door trim instead.

Crown molding is eye-candy to a home's interior...the more the better!

Here is the house. Not sure if crown molding would work against the brick wall and blue wall in master. Would have liked it in the living room and bathroom. I didn’t notice it until this past week.
