I am looking to get a Miter saw for some home DIY stuff. I need one. Anyone want to recommend one that isn't too expensive. By that, anything over $400 is too much.

I've had this Ryobi for years. It's solid and low price.

Dewalt DW716, 12" double-bevel miter saw. I've used these professionally for years and will do everything you need. Anything I'd need the capacity of a sliding miter saw I'd use a skilsaw or a beam saw for anyway.

I have the Dewalt and the Ridgid sliding compound miter saws. I prefer the Ridgid because it cuts smoother. The Dewalt is jumpy probably because it has more power. But either is fine and I would probably get the cheaper of the two. The miter stand is a must.

Get one with a 12” blade. You won’t regret it

Look at the Hercules 12” slider at Harbor Freight.

I bought that one a few months ago after doing a bit of research... very similar saw to the Dewalt 780.
So far I’ve been impressed; nice 60T blade out the box, fence is straight (an issue I had with a 10” craftsman that this one replaced), love the shadow light... all in all a pretty decent saw for the price.

Anyone familiar with the Admiral from Harbor Freight? I'm thinking about picking one up this weekend.

If you're just going to use it around the house every now and then, the Ryobi, or even the Harbor Freight ones will do the job just fine.
I have the Ryobi one and have zero complaints.

You probably won’t regret it, but I’ve used both 10 and 12 sliders and hardly ever need the 12.

I like the smaller, lighter 10 and only need to keep one blade size for the miter and table saws. Cheaper blade as well.

Look at all y'all with that Chinese owned and made crap (Ridgid, DeWalt).

Metabo (formerly Hitachi) has a cheap base model at Lowe's ($150) that does the job for me. And they have pricier versions with more of the bells and whistles. They're made in Malaysia and I'm almost certain they're Japanese owned.

Ridgid and Dewalt are Chinese. Support China if you wish but Americans should do all they can not to.

I just ordered a 12" miter saw, Dewalt DWS715 for $229. 4.9/5 stars on 1500+ reviews is pretty good.

You are too stupid to use anything more complicated than a rubber sanding block.

I have an old AF makita 10" slider that is beat up. I've been debating the move to a 12" and am debating stepping down to Ryobi b/c a I don't use it as often as a contractor so don't think I need Dewalt level.

That's a solid saw, get yourself a few extra blades though. I switch out blades for trim work, cutting treated lumber, and engineered flooring. Never want to run a good fine finish blade through treated lumber or pre-finished flooring.

Make sure it's a sliding 10" minimum. You'll be kicking yourself if not

I think this is the one I have. Thought I had paid less a year ago.
Nonetheless, it's been good for me, as I've used it a lot cutting vinyl planks along with a few other wood cuts
