My advice buy into a battery line.

The guy who sold me my house left the shitty craftsman mower that plugs in with an extension cord. I despise it, but my yard is so small, I couldn't justify dropping money on a new one. It broke yesterday and now I guess I'm gonna get Ego to match my trimmer /edger and blower. Still not thrilled about the price - not because of the product, but because it seems like a lot for a tiny yard.

Looked at Ryobi and Kobalt, But I think you're right, I don't want another battery system.

Looked at these today. That’s $500 baw for an electric mower. That’s too pricey for me. $300 get you a self propelled toro.

Should have gone all out baw!

LINK

I’ve used the Kobalt 80v and it did a great job. I do t use it at my house but if I had a smaller yard I could see myself going that route.

I do have the Kobalt 80v trimmer and blower though and they work great.

I agree about sticking with one battery line also.

My issue. I have a Ryobi battery. While it works great when i stay on top of my grass and i love having batteries for my blower, weed eater, and trimmer. If your grass overgrows at all or is wet its a mother fricker to get cut.

Sometimes i love the thing and sometimes i hate it. But it is nice to have the only gas i have to worry about in my life is gas in my car.

I don't plan on it.

If it gets out of hand I'll borrow the neighbors gas mower. Don't plan on letting it get to that point though.

I have been moving to electric for the past year

I got the ego trimmer, blower, hedge trimmer and recently got the chainsaw. Very impressed.
I also now have the dewalt extension trimmer and chainsaw combo and it is badass.

I’ve just gotten sick of dealing with gas, oil and engine troubles that come with them.

I then got the dewalt sawzall and drill and they’re incredible. A bit expensive but real solid.
No more cords for me.

I will probably buy an electric mower in the next few years

I also have some ego gear, impressed as well. Get a couple batteries and you can work all day, only stopping for the time it takes to swap which battery is on the charger. They charge about as fast as you can burn them out.

I've had the trimmer and blower for about 4 years, edger and pole saw for 3 and hedge trimmer for a few months. It all works as well or better than all the gas powered stuff I've had over the years.

I've only had one problem, and it was mostly my fault for not knowing any better. So word to the wise: don't work the smaller packs too hard. In my case I was using the small 2.5ah pack on the edger, and I think I burned it up. If you keep up with the edging it'll probably be fine, but I was digging up some dirt with it as it had been a while. It stopped taking a charge. But customer service was great for me. I told them the pack wouldn't charge, they asked about the light sequence the charger was showing, they said it was a goner and sent me a new pack right away. They didn't even want the old one back, just told me to take it in to home depot for "disposal". I just kept it.

So now I have a 5ah that I use with the edger and blower, and I use the new 2.5ah pack they sent me for trimming and whatnot. As long as you don't burn through a charge in less than 5 or 10 minutes working it too hard, they seem to hold up very well. The motors will probably last the rest of my life, and if I have to drop $300 on a new battery pack every 3 or 4 years, I think that would be money well spent. Way better than dealing with gas and oil all the time, filters, priming, choking, cranking, etc. Just a huge time saver.

I'd like to go electric but the cost of replacement batteries is a killer for me. Having to drop $200-3000 for a new battery every 3-4 years just doesn't make much sense.

I can buy a lot of oil, gas, air filters, plugs, etc. for that much money.

You can buy a lot of those parts for the money but a lot of us put some value into not having to mess with all that. It's not just the cost of the parts.

I'm getting to a point where my time is more valuable than money. Just about everything I currently own is a piece of shite because I bought it when I was putting myself through school and couldn't afford better. If I use my boat one weekend I have to work on it the next. Same with 4wheeler, lawnmower, etc. As stuff breaks my priority when replacing it are things that are low maintenance. I'd rather spend the coin and have more time to hunt/fish/hike etc than work on my gear.

Eh, $300 every 3 years works out to $2 per week, plus the nickel it takes to charge it. Well worth it IMO.
