so preface it to say i load a dishwasher like a civilized human playing a game of tetris.

wife loads it like a drunk frat boy playing jenga. i open it after its done to either a trap where a dutch oven falls on a wine glass as i slide the tray out or surprised by 15lbs of what looks like vegetable stew sitting on the bottom.

therefore i own dishwasher management 101.

so, all these new bosches have the wifis and junk; i am familiar with 'start delay' (having used that since caveman days) and starting it immediately.

but the 'remote start' option is always highlighted.

i'm really struggling on the use case here. does anyone find themselves loading the dishwasher, putting in the tab, programming it and closing the door and then choosing not to run it??

so what, you can be out a bar later and say to your friends "watch me start my dishwashing routine!"

i'm really at a loss here.

while i'm on the subject, TWICE in the year Ive had this dishwasher i got an urgent alert on my phone telling me a CRITICAL SECURITY UPDATE HAS BEEN APPLIED. :

wut? what is a hacker going to do here? wash my dishes? run the clean cycle?

/rant

Put it in reverse and put that vegetable stew soaking at the bottom all over your dishes

With the benefit of programming a delayed start, I do not see the benefit. I will use the delayed start if I'm washing clothes, the kids are taking baths, and I need to run it. Or, during hard freezes, I will always set it to run a long cycle and have it start around 2-3am. But if I load it, put in the tab, and walk away without programming; there is not a chance in hell that I will remember to open the app and hit start until I need something that I put in there, or the wife left another dirty spoon in the sink.

This also goes for the washer/dryers with wifi capability. Clothes are in, soap is in the dispenser, why do I need an app to start it?

Installed a new 500 series for my parents a few months ago. Told them there's an app for all the other features but they aren't going to use that nonsense. Main feature they like is the red light it shines on the floor to let them know it's running, pretty damned quiet dishwasher and they'd never know it was running otherwise.

Fun fact: Thermador (which is owned by Bosch) shines a blue light on the floor during operation.

In 2023 a 175 Omiwane dishwashers in france were hacked to falsly act like it was in a wash cycle and to indicate it had complete it.

Something like 12 people died from salmonella poisoning.

I’m guessing the hacker thing would be a vulnerability to your network. If you can access the dishwasher from outside of your home then they could potentially use that to get inside as a trusted device.

I can also see a use case for loading breakfast dishes and going about my day assuming I’d run it after supper. Plans change, yada yada yada, want my coffee/favorite mug etc in the morning and decide to hit start while I’m finishing up at the bar that evening or whatever…. Don’t really think it’s necessary but maybe.

Once in 15 years. I texted the maid and she started it for me.

I'm not a fan of wifi appliances, etc., but I will admit to setting the 4-hour delay during a hard freeze so it kicks on at 3 am and moves water through the pipes.
