I have this old concrete form from an old deck that I would like to get rid of. What would be the best way to dig this out? Not sure how deep it goes.

Rent a jackhammer from home depot.

Do you have any heavy equipment?

Could you drill a few wedge anchors into it, attach a lifting lug, and pull it up?

There’s no telling how deep that thing goes. Regardless you’re going to have a hell of a time digging it out. Maybe your best bet is to just bust it down a couple two or 3 inches below the grass and just put a piece of sod over it

Something so small will be a big job by hand. I would just rent a mini trackhoe and dig around it. Then you’ll have the power to lift it to the trailer. Roll it off in a pond.

ETA - great base for a basketball goal?

not a chance in hell i would try to remove that myself. If it was at my house it would already have a potted plant on top of it

Looks like a great place to bolt a flag pole or a bird bath.

That is a great foundation place for a flag pole, bird bath, or anything else you need.

Use a hammer drill and drill a bunch of holes in it to a depth just below ground level. Bust it up with a sledge hammer.

dude, thats a footing, its at least twice as tall under ground as above, so its like 3ft tall at least, and will weight well over 200lbs

you need more than muscle power for that

you need to rent a backhoe, dig it up, haul it away, and backfill it with dirt

Looks like concrete that was poured inside a Sonotube, just a guess, it’s a little ways down there.

Do it with a sledge hammer and count the swings for us.

We can take bets on how many it will take

I wouldn’t think it’s more than just 2’ deep at the most

Likely 4 foot deep with rebar.

Just get a shovel and dig out 4-6 inches away from the base. Probably not that deep if a contractor did it. Maybe a foot or two at the most. Find the bottom and use a pry bar to wedge it from the side to get it loose. Hand truck would get it moved after that.

If the contractor that poured that was worth his salt, it's a least 2' deep.

Seeing he didn't care to rub it down after he wrecked the form I'd say 1' deep tops.

Thank you all. I’m gonna dig around it and see what depth it is before I proceed to next steps. I have a feeling it’s 1’ deep as well knowing the contractor I had build the previous deck.

1’ is plenty enough concrete to make that a pain in the arse to remove by hand. A dude on a mini could have it out in about a minute, plus he could pick it up and get it out of your yard

You’ve got a few viable options :
Use for a birdbath base or for a big plant
Demo hammer below ground level and cover it with dirt and grass
Dig it out.
If you choose to dig it out you’re gonna need some sort of machine.
You ain’t getting that out with a pry bar. That’s a sonotube form, usually 3-4’ long.
