How do I prevent snakes in my yard? Close call yesterday

I stepped right over a copperhead on my patio and didn't know until after. Obviously I was incredibly lucky I wasn't bitten and I promptly introduced him to the sharp end of a shovel, but other than feeding a few stray cats in hopes they stick around, what can I do to try to repel snakes?

Get a cat. I don’t like cats but I got one for snakes and problem solved.

Neighborhood cat will help. For me if I cut the grass within 24 hours of a good rain, there’s a pretty strong chance 3-4 snakes will inadvertently be maimed by my mower.

What does the rain have to do with it? We did get a lot of rain the evening before this copperhead showed up.

Oh, they’re worse. But I love them.
And they’re travelers. The whole herd will go out of hearing in one direction, and then after awhile they’ll come back in hearing from a completely different direction.

I've got 20 acres. But I have people on either side of me with 20 acres. I'm sure they would appreciate it

The problem I had was mine joined up with the guineas across the road and they kept going back and forth until they were all run over. Every couple of days we would lose one or two.

I love that this is now a guinea fowl thread.
I have a core memory of going to my great grandmothers farm to be there when her guineas arrived. she set the cage out in the chicken yard, they started marching towards the woods…and we never saw them again

Encourage owls, hawks to come to your yard, get a cat leave him outside, keep grass cut and yard clean.....think food chain...your yard evidently is housing food for the unwanted...

I have 2.5 acres. Ive never seen a venomous snake. I accredited it to keeping my yard mowed. The neighbors I know dont keep their property mowed and cedars limbed up and they have had rattle snake problems. We have roadrunners pretty frequently here. I see them with small snakes in their mouth frequently. Encouraging predatory birds and keeping habitat down to a minimum seems effective to me.
