Has anyone ever found a solution for dog piss killing your lawn?

Or is it one of those situations where God gave us lovable companions and said “oh by the way, they’ll nuke your lawn and there’s nothing you can do about it”

Don’t bother with “train her to piss in the mulch”, I did my best but having to go to work everyday my wife dropped the ball everyday I went to work so that ship has sailed

The pills are scams that I know, going out to water it down with the hose every time she pisses is unrealistic too.

Does the Revive for Dog Spots actually work is that a waste as well?

I tried everything. The only thing that remotely worked was...

I don’t mind the spots. I love the deep green grass that comes up eventually.

Changing the food is the only thing that worked. Switched to Kirkland which is rebadged Diamond Naturals and the spots stopped.

We've fostered countless dogs. I have not established a pattern or reason why some dogs' pee kills the grass, while some do not.
I'd say most do not. I'm thinking the common thing that the grass killers have might be they seem to have to pee a whole lot at once.
Maybe it is that oversaturation of the pee that just makes it kill the grass.
Do you walk her to pee? Is she only outside a few times a day?

Perhaps you could increase her peeing opportunities.

At what point does this happen? Am I missing an inside joke?

We talking 2-3-4 years?

My theory is hydration so the piss is more diluted. One of mine drinks a ton of water compared to the other and they pick different sides of the yard to pee. The one that doesn’t drink as much water has all the yellow spots

Dog urine is acidic. Female dogs pee in one concentrated spot, so it's worse than males. We have 2 new pups, and the one that drinks water doesn't burn the grass, the other one has yellow pee that burns every time.

My current experiment is using granulated lime to lower the PH of entire yard. Hopefully this keeps the slightly acidic urine from burning as bad. It's only been a few days since I put the lime out, so we shall see over the next few days.

I think it’s worse with female dogs. I don’t recall my male dog burning grass when I was a kid but my female dog destroys the grass. Also, it doesn’t seem to hurt the zoysia in the front yard but nukes the st aug.

That’s because bitches squat to pee.

Male dogs usually piss on something like a tree or mailbox, that's probably why. They don't piss directly in the middle of the lawn on a consistent basis.

I have some success minimizing the dead spots by spreading the pee damage around. I have a 25' roll of 3' high wire fencing which encloses a circle about 8' in diameter. I just wire the ends together, no stakes. When the dog starts hitting the same area heavily, I fence it off. The fence barrier gets moved once a week on cutting day.

In St Aug lawn the lush green spots with rapid growth show up about 3 weeks after the dead spot begins to fade. They persist for weeks.

That’s it, if you really want to stop it you have to water the spot the dog peed on. The urea content is high and concentrated so it basically burns the spot, if you water the spot after it’ll spread out and not burn

Or just say screw it and let the two dogs burn spots in the yard like I do

Anybody able to compare the urine damage to St Augustine vs Bermuda? I'm willing to start Bermuda in the dog areas if it fairs better.

I’ve got Bermuda and dog piss makes it nice and orange for awhile. I’ve got a boy dog but he never figured out he shouldn’t pee like a girl

My wife's dog pisses right off the patio and it's about a gallon at a time. Ive started watering it in every time he goes. I keep asking her to and she rarely does it when it only takes 30 seconds. If she spent half as much time trying to make something look nice and my dog was ruining it id never hear the end of it

I leave a bowl of delicious ethylene glycol for the neighborhood pissers to enjoy on a hot day.

it almost always does the trick
