Hanging a TV outside....cabinet or no?

I didn't want to hi-jack the other thread. I am hanging a TV on my back patio. In my last house I had a cabinet built. However, I am thinking about either just hanging it, or putting it on a shelf on the wall? I would still need a shelf to put a box. Here is my question, based on the pic do you think it needs to be in cabinet for weather protection? I kind of like the the minimal look of hanging or sitting on a shelf. Thanks.

I've just used a cheap cover on mine. Been outside in BR weather for 4 years now, no issues.

I have a cover I got from Amazon that was no more than $30. I'd do something like that, if anything at all. I'd likely be more concerned about heat and smoke from your kettle than I would rain in that location.

I think if you put it high enough and favor the left side it's fine. Also TVs are pretty disposable these days, because it's in the elements keep it under $500 so when it does shite the bed in 6 years you won't be too concerned.

It will be centered. If it lasts me 6 years I would be ecstatic.

Just did this recently and used a cover from amazon like a poster mentioned. I got a standard 50 inch TCL TV because they are so cheap and the picture quality is pretty dang good.
There is some glare but I think that goes with any tv outside.
Also, I got very busy one week and left the cover off for a couple of days and we had nothing but storms during those days and zero damage to tv. I would get a cover anyways just to be safe.

To me the cover is a pain in the butt. You can get 42” tvs for $200 that will last 3 yrs or so outside

I’ve had a cheap Vizio outside with no cover and it gets light weather on it from time to time. That was 8 years ago and it works fine still

no cover or cabinet. just hang it. like stated before, TVs are fairly disposable these days. you dont need a TV with all the top bells and whistles and 100 inputs for outside on a patio. I have a Samsung outside, all I did was put some electrical tape over the input ports not being used and try to keep the dust and dirt dobbers to a minimum. been hangiing there 5 years.

I have a cabinet, but it's mainly to keep dust and grime off, then the weather. I put weather stripping around the cabinet doors, so I can pressure wash without any worry. My remotes, sound bar, etc all inside and clean

I’ve got a water resistant canvas cover that velcro straps over the tv. Similar to a bbq pit cover. It gets no direct water but windswept rain and moisture could have been an issue. Had it for 7 years with no problems

It definitely is a pain. Especially if you mount it up as high as I did.

Centered on wall covering outlet would look good. I have a 55” insignia I got from Best Buy for 299$ three years ago. Bought the cover but rarely use it bc it’s a PITA as my tv is mounted high. I figured if I get 5 yrs out of a 299$ outside with no cover I’m doing well.

That is my plan. Ideally, I would like to stream to it so I wouldn't need a box, but my house is not on a streaming service.

This looks exactly like where my tv is hung. The rain doesn't generally blow in toward where it is hung, which helps. I do not cover it. It's a little high up and would be a pain to get one on there. Just run a damp cloth over it occasionally to clean. It works fine. I figure if it lasts a couple years it's easier to just get a new one.
Been over a year so far no issues

I've had several tvs on patios at work. Just get a soft cover unless you are going for a certain look

I got a piece of live edge and some brackets and did a simple shelf, that way when I move I can just unbolt it putty and paint the holes.
At my parents we did the same wood into brick with anchor bolts and glue so it looks like it is floating, both options are solid.
I don't use a cover on my TV and have never had an issue.

I pressure wash it on occasion. I take a broom to it regularly to get cobwebs and other little things off. It is due for another cleaning.
