Cracking in grout after one week of bathroom renovation…

GC is coming tomorrow to inspect. I’d imagine they will push the blame, but do you repair this? Is it as simple as lay more grout on top. Or am I potentially looking at a total floor redo?

Pictures would help. Its likely not a big deal at all, almost definitely no need for a re do certainly. Yes you can re grout over grout thats not an issue, grout is basically just a filler.
Grout should be used conservatively along borders of things like tubs, sinks, etc. that dont flex and then that area should be caulked as caulk has flex for better waterproofing.
You can also scrape/ cut out grout and reapply in areas.

If in BTR, I’ve used a grout caulk.

Is the floor level, any hollow spots under the tiles?
Along with pictures, and location, where specifically on the floor is it cracking. Middle of floor, near a wall, around toilet/tub...

Thanks for the input ; trying to post photos now. It’s cracking mainly in the middle of the floor. Edges near tub, toilet and sink are mainly intact. They did have to replace the sub floor

Something wrong there. Mixed it wrong or something. I put the same tile on a backsplash recently. Tell myself every time I'll never do it again. This is much worse than what I did though.

That’s a pretty bad tile job. Inconsistent grout widths for sure.
Did they not use spacers?

What kind of flooring was there before? When they replaced the subfloor did they use a cement backer board? If not what did they install?

So they used a cement backing board before they tiled. They were “pre-spaced” tiles in segments like the above picture.
I’m almost certain they switched tile guys in the middle of the project, and the second guy had to correct a bunch. We were moved out at the time so I didn’t witness the transition.

Some of the installers I’ve seen will mix the grout very thin which makes it easier for them to spread. They water it down which can cause cracking like yours. Cement finishers will do the same with concrete, watering it down so it’s easy on them. Gotta watch everyone and everything they do.

I redid a bathroom with those, they can still get out of line. I checked my work with a spacer.
