Can I cut a hollow core door much shorter?

Need a 30"x54" interior door for a closet that leads to my attic. There is a frame but no door. Cannot find this size anywhere. What happens if I cut alot off an 80" door and somehow seal the bottom with something. It would not be used much.

Sure, cut it, chisel out the cardboard hollow core crap. Rip a new stile from 2X on a table saw and glue it in.

Yes, I’ve done it. As said, rip a piece to fit inside, glue it and shoot it with a few finish nails.

That works.

Will give it a try. Will have to try to find a strip for the bottom or cut one by hand. Got rid of my table saw.

Blasphemy!!!! Never get rid of a tool, especially one that is so handy in a home shop. My table saw is pretty much the backbone of my small woodworking shop at the house.
With the proper accessories and jigs, there is so much a table saw can do.

As previously suggested, cut the door as needed, remove the stuff inside. But you don't need to find another strip, the one you cut off is already the right size! Simply use a putty knife to remove the this outer wood, knock the pieces off the ends, glue and put back in the new bottom. A couple brads will keep in place while the glue dries.
Done this a few times, works like a charm.

yes, its easy, but then you need to peel the skin of the door off the cut section and glue it back into the hollow door where you cut it.
its not hard at all, but it takes a little work to do it right

If in the BTR area, I can get a solid door made, any size. Let me know.

Want to add something NOBODY has mentioned so far.
Before you cut the door, especially if using a circular saw, after you determine how much to cut, pencil in your cut line and use a straight edge to take a utility knife and score that line with at least 2-3 passes to cut into the door surface.
Then when you cut the door, keep the circular saw blade just shy of that line on the waste side to prevent the blade from causing tear-out of the doors finished surface.

Just to clarify, stiles are vertical and rails are horizontal.
Also, apply painter's tape to the door where you will mark and cut. As stated above, reuse the bottom rail that was cut off.

Solid advice, especially if using a circular saw
