Time to start spot spraying this evil weed.
Adder: We sprayed the entire yard with a healthy dose....and now will spot spray with a 4X dose.

Easier to control if spayed before it flowers. Best to look for it in the lawn before flowers appear.

What are you dosing with? I have chamberbitter and buttonweed showing up. I have celsius but when I used it last year it shocked the grass so bad it took a month to start growing again.

Pretty much the only way to get rid of it is to dig it up. Make sure you get all of the roots and don't drop any of the leaves or stem and burn it. That crap will germinate from any piece left after pulling it. Spraying only temporarily knocks it back. I'm not aware of any chemical that will completely kill it off. Not even roundup or fusillade. It's fairly easy to dig up though.

Best on both of those to bite the bullet and spend a day or two pulling it. Chamberbitter is very easy to pull up. Virginia buttonweed is a little harder to pull, but still not all that difficult. Got to get chamberbitter while it's young. Before it gets the seeds on the underside of the leaves and drops them. Stuff spreads like wildfire.

Funny. For the first time this year, I’m seeing substantial yellowing of Bermuda from spot treatment with Celsius.

Msm and Celsius both completely kill vbw. Might take two applications but it will take care of it.

Yup. My neighbor mowing once a month doesn't help. Water flows from his yard across mine when it rains.

I think this is where some fall short on VBW control, and other difficult to control weeds, even when using the best herbicides. Making that 2nd application 3-4 weeks later is almost mandatory, particularly if the weed is mature.

I have used both MSM and Celsius....
I spray the entire yard in March with the recommended dose, and then spot spray with 4X dose as it appears. ANd yes, it does kill some grass nearby, but this is the process that has kept VBW under control.

What’s that 4x rate?
My experience is that once temps reach 90 consistently, waiting over 2 weeks between VBW targeted sprayings is too long.

So, it's good even when 90+?

You’re not waiting 4 weeks for vbw to recover. You are waiting for the grass to be able to handle a second shot of herbicide. Yes, some vbw will bounce back but the end goal is to kill weeds without killing the grass.

I have used Speedzone Southern for buttonweed successfully in Bermuda lawn.

ronk, is MSM worth using to spot treat with? It must be a microscopic amount to mix in a 2 gallon sprayer. Curious

Msm is fantastic. My preference is Celsius because of grassy weed control/suppression but MSM is just as good on broadleafs. It’s also cheaper.

I use Blindside in my zoysia. It’s gone and I pretty much have it under control from last year.

It's the devil. I'm finally come to term with the fact that I'll never be able to get rid of it, and can just hope to try to knock it back an somewhat contain it.

I’ve gotten MSM but probably not applying correctly. I try to pull it up carefully and chase the roots into the ground also. Frustrating.
