It’s not. Chlorine is significantly more corrosive than the salt water in a pool.

Best FILTERING system is a hands down Diatomaceous Earth filter. It will BY FAR give you the clearest water. It goes worst -> best: sand -> paper filter -> DE. I have paper filter that’s what our pool came with and I love it.

As far as sanitizer: whatever you want really they all do the job.

Personally, I prefer regular chlorine with borates, thus keeping the chlorine level on lower side and water quality sparkling crystal clear, the feel soft, and costs low.

From that I understand if your chlorine pool hardiness level gets too low this can cause corrosion as well.

I think this refers to loss of calcium in your plaster. If the water isn’t hard enough it will literally suck the calcium out of your pool and destroy it.

you can easily keep your chlorine on the safe but low side of things. I don’t smell like chlorine when I get out of the pool and my water is crystal clear.
this isn't the neighborhood pool where nasty kids pee and shite in their swimming diapers so you only need to keep the chlorine level on par with water coming from your tap.

That's the nice thing about having your own pool.

When I filled mine up the guy who was helping me said "water coming from your spigot is completely balanced. You want to keep your pool that way going forward."

Of course you're going to screw up from time to time, equipment fails, etc and you'll need to super chlorinate it but once that's done you go back to normal.

A chlorine pool is not a negative thing.

Tap water varies greatly from source to source. Some tap water is truly bad quality water. Mileage will vary with the above statement.

don't be That Guy.

The point I'm making in case you missed it is that it doesn't matter whether you have a system that converts salt to chlorine or a basic chlorine based pool because ultimately balanced water is the end game and is the same no matter what system you go with.

For some reason salt water pool owners feel their system is superior and I'm just pointing out they do the same thing.

It’s because it sounds fancier and they want to pretend their pool water is like floating in the Dead Sea.

Our water is too soft to not have to treat the pool. Amongst other things

I bought 50# of DE on Amazon and sprinkle a little in the skimmer baskets after each backwash. Just enough to raise the pressure 1 psi. I read that it will help the sand catch the finer particles that could otherwise slip through.

It seems to help keep the water clear.

I do this with cheap throwaway hairnets in the skimmer basket. Works great. I chunk them every other day or so. They catch alot of fines before they make it to my filter and clog.
