Are these indicators of moles?

Have some holes near the foundation of the house that I’ve packed with play sand. Packed pretty tight so it seems unlikely that all of them caved in. Do these look like signs of moles? I don’t have any mounds anywhere in the actual yard.

Only on this 10-foot stretch of the house. Sand in the other locations has remained undisturbed.

If so, what do you recommend.. the traps or the worms?

Appreciate all you folks on this board. Always a wealth of knowledge.

That could be mice, frogs or who knows what else.

The moles on my property have tunnels that you can see above ground.

Moles will tunnel and cause the earth to bump up…the tunnels will go for distances and meandering…when they come up to a solid object like a foundation they usually just turn the tunnel and run it along the foundations until they meander out …sometimes the pop their head up at the foundation and then turn….

If moles you roll see obvious tunnel “mounds”

From those pictures I would say not moles…

I will keep you updated

Tend to agree with LSU999. Feels like there would be visible tunnels in the yard. Might have to do a stakeout

Appreciate it, Thecoz and LSU999. The neighbor got a new puppy who caught a mole but I haven’t seen any other evidence- particularly mounds.

Might just let the puppy patrol the yard

Walk around your grass right after you mow it. If your grass is squishy and doesn’t feel as firm and flat as it looks, you definitely have moles.

We have them and those those little bastards drive me crazy. We have killed several in the 10 years we’ve lived here, but they must have litters 100 at a time. My next step is calling Carl Spackler

Btw of you feel moles are on your yard…. try these three methods
1: easiest and no real cost: throw some juicy fruit gum in hole. They eat it and can not pass it ( leave foil on).. sad but effective death
2: poison gummy if you have no dogs , kids etc… you find an active tunnel ( push down on the earth tunnel bump a little… if active the mole will pass under and repair it by pushing it back up)… when active tunnel found pull a little earth back and drop gummy in then cover hole you made..
3: spike traps…. Find active tunnel… lift top earth off.set trap in.

Fwiw moles really are not bad to have around as they eat grubs etc… but they can cause your yard to get very very “bumpy “

I tried all above but most successful was I treated my yard for grubs etc with the granular stuff… keep the grubs out and moles find somewhere else to eat … I was proactive with my treatment and never mentioned it to my neighbor since I was hoping their yards would be the grub buffet..

This is the most effective treatment for moles. Get rid of the food and they go away.

While we are talking about Moles I have a question. Never had moles, that I know of in my yard. I recently re sodded my back yard after I completed my pool. A couple weeks later I found a small mole floating dead in my pool. It’s been a mystery since and for some reason I still think about it. Is it possible that he came in the sod. How deed do they usually dig. Seems like it would be too shallow for him to come in the sod.

do you have chipmunks in your area?

ETA: do you have a dog? It's about to look wayyyyy worse if it's chipmunks and your dog realizes it.

Rats? My old house in Metairie had rats living in holes under the slab when I first moved in. A bunch of those green cubes down the holes solved that problem.

I like how you think. Will try this over the weekend and report back in a few weeks.

Get a couple of those old-school colored smoke bombs and throw in the holes. I did that as a kid and wiped out a huge nest of rats under a concrete slab. The rats were running out of the hole in all different colors before dying.

What are these green cubes of which you speak?

ETA: Just found them. Based on your post I’m guessing I don’t need to use the bait station? I can just toss a few in the hole?

You can… just as long as not dog /cat etc…around…

I cut small holes in something like a plastic ice cream bucket…open and put the green poison blocks in ..put top on and wrap once with tape….place plastic container with poison in location…

But I know …I over worry about stuff
