I am currently looking at getting a new planer and possibly a new jointer. It looks like the Grizzly tools have pretty good reviews. Does anyone have any experience with them?

I think they are generally ok, but for the money you should go to a DeWalt 12.5" or save for the DW-735. I have the DW-734 and it's been a fantastic machine for my needs. I took the time to dial in the platen with a precision straight edge and I've ran jaktoba through it with great results. been researching jointers too and I've pretty much settled on the Wahuda 8" model: LINK

My planet is the dw735 and I have an8” powermatic. I love both of them.

I do have a grizzly band saw that gets used all the time. Might be the most used power tool in my shop.

I've got a former co-worker that did cabinet building on the side and he stocked his shop exclusively with Grizzly power tools for his big tools and has had no issues with them as far as I know.

Drill Press
Table Saw
Shaper
Band Saw
1/2" and 3/4 shank router/shaper bits

Which band saw, and what do you find so useful about it?

Have my entire shop outfitted with Grizzly. For the price they are excellent and to get better quality you have to pay at least 50% more for baleigh or powermatic.

Currently have:
G0941 10” cabinet saw
G0513x2 17” bandsaw
G01021X2 15” planer with helical head
G0858 8” jointer with helical head
G1035 1.5 HP shaper
G1014 Combo belt/disc sander
Oscillating spindle sander
H8259 Benchtop lathe
3HP dust collector

As others said I wouldn’t waste money on bench top jointer, beds aren’t long enough to get good edge and don’t have enough weight to eliminate chatter.

The dewalt 735 is a great planer, grizzly offers a combo pack at times with helical head which is even better. I had one but upgraded as I had a bunch of 13-14” reclaimed cypress that I didn’t want to have to rip to run through it.

I have the Dewalt 735 and can't complain at all. Everywhere I looked, people recommended it. Would love to upgrade to helical head cutter, but have my eye on a few other things before pulling the trigger on that as the straight blades aren't terrible at the moment. Just picked up a 17" Grizzly bandsaw 2nd hand off a guy. Seems very quality. Said he'd be selling his8" Grizzly parallelogram jointer with helical head soon. I'll be jumping all over that.

Nothing wrong with grizzly but I would get the dewalt 735 jointer if you can afford to get a floor model 6 in save more money and get an 8. on a jointer get the biggest one you have room for and can afford. I have a 6 in jet but having the longer bed would be nice on a 8 in

I pretty regularly look at Craigslist for tools if I have a need for something. Pretty much never see anything I want or if I do, it's listed at damned near new pricing. But every once in a while, something pops up and I have to be ready. I've gotten the items below off Craigslist.

Sawstop 3HP Professional Saw w 52" fence, 1.5 HP Jet Dust Collector, and Jet ambient air filtration unit for $3100 ($4250-ish new) off a guy closing his framing shop.

Grizzly 0513X2 17" Band Saw for $1100 ($1400 new plus shipping) off a guy who has a custom blind/shutter business who realized he wasn't going to use rough lumber

Grizzy 0490 8" Jointer w/ upgraded Shelix Cutter head for $$1100 (Would be $1800-ish plus shipping new) from the same blind/shutter guy (actually reached out to him before he listed it since I saw it when I picked up the bandsaw)

Not necessarily getting outrageous deals, but probably saved around 2k buying this way. Can't complain about any of the tools other than wishing the bandsaw had a brake.

Figure here's as good a place as any on this site to ask. I'm in the process of making a table. I had no issues getting some 9' long 7.5" wide 8/4 Oak flat on one face (used a roller stand). But it was impossible to get a flat, 90 deg edge on them. Had to use my track saw and only have a 50" track, so took a lot of patience to get it straight. Any jointer tips on getting a good edge on long heavy boards for the future? I already have the 76" bed and have no issues on the shorter stuff.

I know it's a long drive, but if you're ever in Springfield MO, the Grizzly store there has everything they make in their showroom. They also have great deals on floor models.

You could get it close with a router. If you have a router table you could defiantly joint that edge to 90.

Buy a good straightedge, I bought an 8’ straightedge from McMaster-Carr for a reasonable price. That and a sharp block plane will get there as well.

Terrebonne Parish Auction

Looks like there might be some decent deals. I'm looking at the planer. Likely too big for my small shop though

Grizzly are generally OK quality Chiwanese machines.

Dewalt makes much better lunchbox planers.

As mentioned under you are building only jewelry boxes forget the idea of a bentop jointer. The beds are too short.

My biggest issue with Grizzly machines in general is you can buy MUCH higher quality American-made old iron for basically the same money or often less. If you expect to maintain and repair woodworking machines you can do it just as easily with old American, German and Italian machines. My shop is filled with Oliver, Northfield, Powermatic, Delta, SCM, Felder, and the like I spent less for than I would have spent on Grizzly.

Again to the OP your best option is either of the Delta planers and start looking for a used 6" floor jointer with longer beds, they are generally easy to find since most people realize they should have gotten an 8" to begin with and sell them off. Jointers are like boats you always get 2' itis, in the vase of jointers it is 2" itis. I have a 12" and 24" jointer and I lust after a 30" or 36".
