80s Intercom System Removal?

I recently purchased a house built in 1980 which has an intercom/radio system. Needless to say, the thing is outdated an no longer needed.
How easy is this to remove for someone that is fairly handy but knows little about electrical work? In my mind, I could disconnect, cap off the wiring, and patch over the holes in the sheet rock in all the rooms (main hub in kitchen, 5x bedrooms and front door as well).
Any pitfalls I’m not thinking of? I watched a couple YouTube videos on the topic but hoping to dive deep on this tonight.

Sounds like you got it figured out.

Haven't thought about one of these in years. We had on in the new house we bought in the 80s when I was a kid and I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Now it's as retro as shag carpet.

Why not disconnect the power source in the attic? It should have a little transformer plugged into a 110 outlet to power it just like a doorbell.
Once the power has been disconnected, you can rip all the cabling out altogether. I wouldn’t want “dead” wires running all over my attic personally, but that’s just me.

I ran into the same thing in my house. All of the signal wiring is low voltage, but there is 115 (120 for Obtuse) volt power at the base station/hub. Proceed with caution, obviously. I backpulled the power wiring to the source (a receptacle immediately below), but I'm OCD about such things.
Otherwise, your plan is sound.

I have one, but it doesn't work.
Wish it did.

I would try to get that thing to work. But that’s just me. I like stuff like that.

got one...still works... do not really notice it... does have a high tech AM and FM radio:)

Yes, can I just disconnect at the transformer, rip out the wiring, and leave the transformer as is in the attic with no purpose? How does the transformer tie into the rest of the home’s wiring, typically….is this just the attic’s power running to the breaker box?
I know very little about electrical so apologies for the basic questions.
It also has an AM/FM radio so I guess I’ll need to pull the the antenna wiring from the walls as well.

Mine looks like the guts have been messed up on the main control panel in the kitchen.
We keep doing so many other projects around the house I haven't looked into much. It's all still wired to the rooms from what I can tell

Just a guess, but I would imagine your intercom power transformer is fed from the same circuit as your central ac/heat unit. If the transformer location is known trace the power wire back to a junction box and disconnect it there. (safety disclaimer - disconnect power first and wait until November to do this, unless you love to sweat)
You can leave the antenna wiring as well as the low voltage wiring in the walls/attic.

I can’t tell you how many times in the last month that I’ve wished for one of those systems so I didn’t have to yell like an a-hole to my kids up in their playroom.

We had one in a new townhouse we bought in 2004. It connected to the doorbell, and also had a radio in the main hub in the kitchen. It was pretty cool at times. We had a speaker in the kitchen, out on the deck, in the master bedroom, and in two common areas. You could tune the radio in the kitchen and each room control the volume or turn it off. Also had an AUX input in the kitchen so you weren’t stuck with FM radio.

You can buy a wireless intercom system on Amazon for $50 to $100.
We used one at work in the 80s. It was handy to communicate between three buildings.
