Seems like many of you putting veggies in ground already! Isn't it way too early? Educate me.

i guess i'm not goign to have potatoes this year. I planted some around christmas and they were growing just fine and the snow killed them. I thought they'd come back but they didn't. Planted some more in a different spot about a week before we had those 2 days of freezing temperatures. They still haven't sprouted up. Oh well.
Carrots survived the snow and freezing temps, as did my spinach. Have broccoli in the ground doing well that was planted 3 weeks ago and my shishito's, bell peppers and cucumbers from seeds are growing well inside.

Ehh it's not too soon down here. If we get to March with no arctic outbreak on the horizon, we're probably good to go. And even then you could cover for a night or two...

Sadly I botched my first round of seed starts and am a month behind. It'll be a race against the heat for me.

Sure as I plant early we'll get a damn April snow storm.

Was talking about planting early at work and someone mentioned a snow storm in May here a few years back. I'm going to gamble with some and start additional seeds as backup.

Potatoes are starting to break through. No significant damage to anything from the ridiculous wind. Had gusts over 50 mph.

I can't even get mine planted. I've about given up on them this year.

Pecans are budding in my neighborhood. Dropped 34 seedlings in the ground this am. Kept it simple this year. Giving Celebrations a try this year.

They usually take 3-4 weeks to pop up

its a cool mid 50s day with a 15 mph north wind today. Had planned to complete the landscape fabric installation in between my rows and around the garden today. Thought better of it especially now with some daylight after i get home during the week. Picked some strawberries and a head of lettuce. The green beans are starting to come up after planting last Sunday. Potatoes are consistently popping up also. Friday was alot prettier and allowed me to freshen up the herb garden with some new plants and put round 2 of tomatoes and a couple of peppers in.

We didn’t get out the 30s yesterday, 70s today and the snow is gone. I’ll probably put some squash seeds in ground tomorrow and transplant my cauliflower. Hell of learning curve moving up here.

Planted yesterday, I'm in Walker, 8b/9a or something like that, I'm new at this as well. I planted tomatoes, bell peppers, and cucumbers, probably will do some okra and snap beans today..... I did create a way I can cover mine when needed if temps get to cold, I'll had a heat light in their if I need to.

Also put out hummingbird food as well, havent seen any action there yet

Also trying those this year for the first time. I'm going to start some seeds early, but planning to direct sow the rest first week of April. I'm in 9A as well.

Ever grow Charleston Gray? If you have room give it a try and I don't think you will be disappointed. Ali Baba is supposed to be the sweetest of the watermelons and looks a lot like the Charleston Gray but not as long. I have tried it a few times over the years and have not had much success with it. They seemed to be a little more temperamental to soils with high moisture. I also had trouble getting some of the seeds to germinate. I am giving them a try again this summer though.

I grew Sugar Baby last year and my biggest one was the size of a large softball. No idea why. Hoping for a different result with Crimson Sweet.

Never tried Charleston gray but have read up on it. Sultan was the sweetest I’ve ever tasted but have never tried planting them.

Thought my pototoes didnt' survive that 2 day freeze but apparently they did. Finally starting to sprout out the ground now.

My cucumbers I've been growing inside are getting close to being ready to put in the ground. looking forward to plenty of pickles this year. The recipe I have for them is delicious.
