I have a suggestion for when it gets hot, ambrosia melons. They love the heat and have been productive and disease resistant for me. It’s been a no brainer once everything else starts to crap out.

Need help with Blueberries.

Bought 9 plants from the farm that I pick berries at in 2023. Last spring had a decent first year harvest. This spring I had zero flowers, not a single berry.

I asked the farmer, and his first guess is the drought here last fall (it was super hot and dry all into November, couldn’t even hunt deer) is to blame.

So, all through this spring and summer these small bushes are just lingering and I’m treating them with care.

Next spring, if I don’t get flowers, am I crazy for pulling them and changing course? So much unproductive space.

Soil test is fine.

All in all by far my best gardening year at my new place, so I feel really good about the fall.

My fall/winter garden is my favorite for several reasons. Less watering, less weeds to deal with, less pests as the weather cools and what I plant is usually bountiful in production.

What I usually plant are as follows:

Collard greens
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Brussel sprouts
Kale
Swiss Chard
Leaf lettuces in several varieties
Onions
Garlic
Pole Beans
Tomatoes that will grow well until any frost hits

yes the fall garden is much more enjoyable.

everybody’s figs coming in? I’m picking as fast as I can to stay ahead of the crows, those frickers have completely disregarded the rules (they get the high ones I get the low ones)

Is it too early to direct sow beets and carrots for a fall harvest?

nursery by me has fall tomato starts for sale already. Its creeping closer to 95 degrees this week. I'm going to pass right now. I am contemplating a shade close over part of my tomatoes in the future though.

I had no idea Shishitos produce like this. Going to be the bring peppers to the office guy because we can't keep up. Meanwhile, my gorgeous poblano plants have produced nothing.

I'm starting to go into summer shutdown mode, except for eggplant and peppers. Still lots to pick... and honey harvest planned for this weekend.

Finally had time to get the peas and okra planted before spending some time back home. Came back to 3" plants.

Started broccoli and cauliflower seeds today. I'm committing to a fall garden. Bring on the thread

I started my late season tomato seedlings last weekend that they are starting to come up. I'll definitely be planting in partial shade. My current garden spot has been good to me but gets ZERO shade. Although the peppers love it that summer sun just decimates everything else.

I'm probably a few weeks behind most of you being just south of ATL, but I think my cucumbers are pretty much done. Pretty happy though after a slow start. More fresh cucs than we can eat and put up a few quarts of pickles. Just always a little sad to pull up plants when it's time.

Me neither, so thankfully I only have two plants going! Still haven't picked any, but the plants just finally took off. I started some from seeds at this board's recommendation.

I have so many different peppers right now, but I love just walking outside to grab some for dinner.

I am about to prep some beds for a fall garden and a future spring garden. I am thinking about about loading up any spare space with bush beans until I need it in the fall or winter.

Not sure what all I want to plant now, but will be going with garlic, onions for sure later in the year.

Starting from scratch again... hopefully for the last time.

My figs are done ever since about mid June. I have about a 2 week period that they are plentiful starting in early June and by mid June I still have a lot of smaller, green figs on the tree, but they never grow bigger or ripen.

But, by then I'm getting tired of them between dehydrating some, making preserves, eating some right off the tree and giving some to others.
