Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in the garden thread!

My wife made this shirt for me as a Father’s Day gift. I must admit, I don’t hate it.

Happy late Father's day to yall. First Father's day without my dad. He didn't care much about my gardening abilities but always liked to steal my tomatoes. Enjoy the time .

I'm getting inundated with tomatoes. I made a pasta pot full of salsa yesterday and I picked like 10 more Big Beefs this morning. Thankfully some of my Jimmy Nardellos started to turn so I had some fresh sweet peppers to include with the jalapenos. Still waiting on the Carmens, Corno di Toro, and bells, but they're coming around. Also have like 15 cucumbers on the vine that need to be picked so I'll probably do that after work today.

Corbaci Peppers from Baker Creek. I think I like them blistered more than the Shishitos. My plant got hit hard by aphids but it's making a comeback. They're supposed to be really heavy producers.

A unique and wonderful sweet pepper. Very long 10-inch fruit is curved and twisted, very slender, like a Turkish sabre. This rare heirloom from Turkey has a very rich flavor, perfect for pickling or frying. One of the most productive of all peppers, out-yielding all others in tests by the University of California.

My garden has been so erratic this year, my one saving grace has been victory in Baton Rouge’s Ugliest tomato contest Saturday lol.

Oof, what a growing season…

I am going to murder whatever keeps eating my cherry tomatoes. it is the one thing in my garden outside of my jalapenos that's doing well. Haven't been able to harvest a single one and have yet to see what's getting them.

Bought some neem oil to use today. Was hoping to not have to use anything but it is what it is. Any better suggestions than neem?

Are you waiting for them to get red? I stopped doing that, and I have lost exactly one tomato this season.

Yeah. Had no idea you should take them off earlier. This is my first year at this, so there's definitely been a learning curve.

Yeah, as soon as you see color, they will ripen inside just fine. Here's a video.

I got a little too aggressive trying to beat the insects and picked some too early, but typically I pick mine at the first possible sign of any color change.

I also usually leave a few to ripen on the vine as a sacrifice to the insect gods.

When do y'all plant your fall gardens?

I am looking to plant lettuce, black eye peas, turnips, and some peppers.

Thank you Very helpful video. I definitely could have saved some of my tomato's because whatever is getting them doesn't really get them until they are close to a bright red.

In my case, it's mockingbirds. I am officially giving up on anything that ends in berry. It's just not worth it. They even figured out the fake strawberries I put out. If I pick the tomatoes when orange, I lose none. They ripen quickly in our widow that projects outward(don't know what that is called).

Here's a photo of yesterday's pickings prior to the heavy rain. I just got rid of like 25 tomatoes making salsa this weekend, but wanted to get ahead of the rain to try to prevent splitting. Peppers are slowly but steadily coming along. I expect them to start turning pretty heavily next week.

I did just plant eggplant and okra. If they don't make it I'll just reseed.

I just started seeds over the weekend. I also cut some suckers from my plants and am rooting them. Going to try hacking down some of my indeterminates and see if they sprout back from stump for a second harvest.

I just did the same, as some were starting to split.

I may have picked a few that were not ready to turn color yet... can I do anything with these?

My tomatoes are just starting to come in. Still picking mostly squash, zucchini and cucumbers. Pretty boring.

Although, gardening do be funny sometimes.

I need help with bed/pot planning. All of my various planting areas were filled with "soil" from bags. This stuff looks more like mulch than soil to me. Over time this stuff has settled a good bit and I want to top off all the pots and my raised beds. What do I go with? More of this same stuff? Some manure? Find some actual soil(I am pretty sure Fads and Frames has some).
