Dealing with the same issue. Went out a couple of days ago and I could see the corn kernels on the ground. They are easy to spot since they are hot pink. Benji got 1 tree rat before work and had another in the squirrelanator with its friend on top of cage trying to figure out how to join him. Hoping I have 2 when I get home.

Bastards got most of my snapbeans I replanted after freeze it appears.

That's what I do. Plant PHP's after pulling up tomatoes. They love the heat of the summer and are delicious.

I'm waiting on the deer to show up. They'll find my plot soon enough. They do every year. Good thing is they usually don't get too greedy. Most of the garden is left untouched.

Two of the tomatoes I left in the ground after the freeze are showing signs of life. One bell pepper that I stripped all the dead leaves off of has a new leaf.

Kinda psyched. Today I went to my county extension office where I am friends with the master gardeners. We exchange plants from time to time. Today one of them gave me a Mountain Rouge and Mountain Magic tomato plants. They are hybrids out of North Carolina that are supposed to be really disease resistant. Can't wait to see how they do.

Nice little surprise in my compost bin this afternoon.

Nice cool evening today. Did a walk through before Son of Sausage and I went pond fishing. Didn’t want Pillage to think he’s that far ahead of all of us with setting tomatoes on his 6 ft tall seedlings! Refreshing the mulch pathways is on the calendar for this weekend.

We have a renegade peanut that we apparently missed last year.

Your pathways are wood chips over landscape fabric? What kind of fabric? The stuff I bought from lowes is just papery shite.

My two heirloom tomato plants that got killed to the ground. Have sprouted back with a few leaves at the base. Fingers crossed.

I am still waiting on two sweet potatoes I have in a pot to sprout so I can start a bed with their cuttings. But no sign of life yet.

Hey Juice! Several years ago I bought some fabulous weed cloth from Sam's Club. It came in a large roll 4' X 50' (guessing) and was really heavy duty. Check there.

Hey Pillage, when you're finished with that beauty, send him over to me. I have not seen a king snake in many years.

I think I did get the majority of the fabric at Sam’s. The stuff at Home Depot is crap. If you know a landscape guy, they can get really good stuff.

Your garden is looking great! I'm jealous of those onions.

Once a week.

And yep, that's a speckled king snake.

I've been seeing them more frequently around here and I could not be happier. I just have to convince my neighbors to leave them be. They are the "every snake is a bad snake" types.

My son's friend killed a king last week and shared it on their group chat. He congratulated him on his increase in rat and venomous snake population . He's been listening.

I thought I'd lost 6 of my 12 pepper plants. 5 of the 6 are sprouting back. The pepper plants that didn't get burnt at all were under my dog's kiddie pool. The rest were under pots covered with compost. Having a large area covered worked better than having one under a large pot. I'm guessing because of the ground temp having more surface area to keep the temp up.

The red boxes are for what haven't shown any life yet. I have a few more pepper plants in pots and a cucumber bed not shown. All of the squash and beans froze but the new seeds have already sprouted.

Does anyone use that colored mulch in their veggie gardens? Was thinking about going to get some of those $2 on sale bags from Lowes but then wondered if that dye would not be good to wash into soil where I'm growing edibles. Thoughts?

Some a-hole insect ate the leading stem off of my sungold plant. Gonna stop by the feed store today and get a replacement just because it's a sungold and it's not too late to replant.

I feel like I'm going to have to learn a whole new dynamic of pest control now that I live in the woods .

I think it would be fine. Most of the dyes used are food grade. But I don’t use it in the garden. I like my pine straw.

ETA: I’d probably be more concerned about the source of the wood used to make the mulch.
