Most I've gotten is 2, but I've done it several times now. Doesn't seem to slow them down, they must frick like rabbits in my neighborhood. I've found my pellet gun it the best way to keep them in check. I only have 3 left frequenting my backyard now, when I walk out they hit the trees like I'm hunting them on a WMA.

When I have things that coon, possums or rabbits get into I employ an electric fence. Just a temp single wire about 6" above the ground that can be weed-eated under for the usually short duration its needed.

Tomatoes go in the ground tomorrow. When should I start breaking suckers off of tomatoes, now?

ETA: Now seeing a low of 38, then 37 deg a week from Sunday. Anyone else in S LA going to chance it?

I put all of mine in the ground yesterday but the weather is showing a low of 45 over the next 2 weeks. Fingers crossed.

Do you guys bring in your pepper plants for the winter?
I'm thinking about burying the whole pot in the raised bed. Has anyone tried this? I thought it would be good for water and temp control. Also during freezes I could just pull the pots out and bring them in.

Which source are you looking at? Cause MSN Weather shows me a low of 35 for next weekend. But, both the weather channel and my local station (KATC) are both showing a low of 42. That's kind of a big difference. And I trust my local guys a little more for local weather. I may wait it out a little longer just to be on the safe side. Unless the forecast drastically changes to the warmer side like it did for the front we were supposed to have this weekend.

You can't focus on exact numbers 7 or 8 days out. Models rarely even agree on large scale trends, so a lot of forecasts just split the difference or veer towards the seasonal mean... take home is there's a signal for some colder air so stay tuned.

Yep, so I’ll probably wait it out and see which way it trends. If it starts trending to the colder side I’ll be glad to have waited. If it starts trending warmer I’ll probably plant during the week. Usually as long as temps stay above 40 I’m ok with planting out.

I’m putting my tomatos and flowers in.

Will wait on peppers and eggplants.

Apple app. Weather.com shows low 40s (Apple showing 33). Not sure what to make of that. I thought they used to be one and the same (weather.com) but not anymore it appears.

Low of 36 a week from Sunday. Tomatoes and peppers aren’t going in.

? for anybody & SIAA, but for a T5 growlight (4 bulbs---54w each) how close should it be to the seedlings (tomatoes, peppers, etc)? I have them about 10-12 inches away right now. Tomato seedlings are about 2 inches tall. Wanting to avoid making them leggy. TIA

Try to keep the light about an inch from the top of the plants at all times.

Thanks, I fixed the light. I figured I had it too high. I also need another light now because I have too many seedlings & they won't fit.

Just monitor them closely and make sure the plants don’t touch the light because it could damage the leaves. That’s not as much of an issue with LED lights that run cooler. So with T5’s you could maybe even keep them about 2” above the plants and move them up once they get about an inch away. But basically you want to keep the light real close.

I'm going to have to repot tomatoes...I was hoping I could plant Wednesday, but that low over the following weekend has me concerned.

Yeah I’ll be monitoring the forecast. But man, I really need to get these in the ground ASAP! I leave for a week and come home to a jungle.

My satsuma and Persian lime tree don’t have any flowers at the moment, but the Meyer lemon tree is loaded with them and the bees are all over it.

ETA: I’ll have to take a picture of my strawberries later. Those, too, blew up over the past week. They’re loaded with berries and some are already wanting to send out runners. I guess the warmer weather this past week contributed to that.

My plants aren’t near as good looking as those or big. I probably pushed mine into the sun a little too quick as usual. I’m going to wait this weekend out to plant.

Was pretty excited to harvest these queen cells. Only 16/30 grafts took, which isn’t great, but the best I’ve done. Went ahead and grafted 30 more this morning. Off this week, so going to do some heavy splitting of my colonies.

Went ahead and repotted tomatoes in 6" pots...that'll hold them until the weather projections cooperate.

Got 100' of snap beans planted too.
