Agree. I’ve had some limited success growing them from seed in the past. Some the seeds have a thick hull and I soaked them for 48 hours before sowing and still didn’t get a good germination rate.

What purpose did you have for the black plastic?

Also, what are you using for irrigation here? I want to start some beds for this coming fall and use into spring.

That’s just some weed barrier paper. That spot was originally my “bee cubicle”, where the beehive was before we put up the fence.

Anybody in Baton Rouge interested in any tomato plants? I started more than I needed from seed and have pretty much given all of my extras to friends but I still have a few left. I hate to just pinch them off because they are all very healthy….

1ea Thorburns Terracotta

1 Berkeley pink Tie Die

1 Black Strawberry Tomato

And have 3 more that I did not label correctly so could be any of the above or possibly Solar Flair or Red Boar.

we need to do a plant swap
I have hundreds (many hundreds) of loquat seedlings that I’m about to pull up. Every one I’ve potted has exploded and they make good fruit

I’ve wore out all my neighbors and friends

I don’t have room to take any in but I would be happy to drop some plants at your office. My smoker is still running great with that additional smoke stack.

So I'm guessing keep it in a pot to move inside if the weather gets below 30?

Anyone else see a peat moss shortage? Sounds like bad weather in Canada was the original culprit, and some increases in gardening due to the economy is wiping inventory out.

Can’t find hardly any. Saw some 1cuft bags for $17 at a small nursery but not much else.

It works for my needs. If I had a much bigger operation I’d definitely look for something better.

First, you make some rice.

Kidding... kind of.

You relocate them?

He should leave them be and enjoy all the natural fertilizer they'll add to his strawberry patch.

This is my plan for now. This is actually the second year in a row I find a bunny nest in my strawberries. Last year, though, I found on sick one and one dead one. The sick one died the next day. They were smaller and younger than these and I think the mom may have been killed or abandoned them. I’m going to see if these move on on their own. Surprisingly, other than a few chewed up strawberries, they haven’t touched anything else in my garden. But if they do, they’ll be evicted quickly.

About to plant creole tomatoes for the first time and talked to a friend who advised deep planting. Saw some videos about planting them 2/3 of the way in the ground. Is that legit?
