Preemergent that you can use with new grass seed?

You can’t use a pre emergent before seed. In fact, a pre emergent after the seed pops isn’t the best course either. Just let everything get really established before using chemicals.

Can I mix Atrazine, Sedge Hammer, and possibly weed free zone in a sprayer and apply at once?

You can mix Atrazine and Weed-Free-Zone together, add a surfactant, but I don’t know if you can add Sedgehammer to the mixture. I read the Sedgehammer label and it doesn’t say, one way or the other.

Laid down some Dimension and Fungus granules last weekend.

Got a few questions or I guess running a few things by you guys.

Backyard
Empire Zoysia with some freaking St. Aug creeping in. A MUCH bigger patch than I'd like, but whatever. As long as I have decent grass, I guess I will live.

In the bulk of the Zoysia I am having problems with Torpedo Grass and Nutsedge. I know that I can nuke the Nutsedge with Image and I have had it stunt the torpedo grass before. I also know that I need to put down quinclorac for the torpedo alone.

What is the best method of approach? Can I put these down together or would that be too much for the Zoysia?

Front Yard
St. Aug and Bermuda mixture. Oh well... I think I have smooth crabgrass. I can't really identify what it is, but that is my best hunch. I can't find a center, but it has the smooth tender little runners that weave throughout the St. Aug. What should I nuke this with? Would two rounds of Image be enough or bigger guns?

For both your front and back yards, MSMA will get rid of your st aug. Bermuda and zoysia both tolerate msma easily. They actually tolerate all selective herbicides. The torpedo grass will always be a struggle.

Unfortunately, I will probably have to deal with the St. Aug. We have dogs and a kid, and my wife would lose her shite if we had a big dead spot to track in more dirt.

I originally planted Zoysia because the St. Aug. couldn't handle the dog traffic in the main portion of my yard. This is a bit off to the side.

I know, that Torpedo is a bitch. I'll probably do Image, kill the nutsedge, hopefully stunt the torpedo, and then do Quinclorac in 4-6 weeks to strictly battle the Torpedo. I think that should be safe.

Did you want the Zoysia and St Aug or the Bermuda?

I just sodded around the house with Palisades Zoysia and I’m trying to figure out what to do for the rest of the lawn. I need something from seed, so more than likely some variety of Bermuda or seeded Zoysia. The Zoysia is beautiful, so I want something that matches it pretty well.

I don’t think it’s crabgrass. But a preemergent to thwart spreading and hitting it with Sethoxydim will almost assuredly work

You can use sethoxydim in centipede but not St Augustine, will damage the turf.

Those are good photos but I’m not comfortable giving you an positive ID. Send these photos to Dr Ron Strahan, LSU AgCenter. rstrahan@agcenter@lsu.edu Give him the same info you provided in this post. He’ll iD for you and give you post-emergent treatment recommendation for St Augustine. Ask him for pre-emergent recommendation as well, though he’ll likely provide you this info anyway.

I have crab grass in my Bermuda St. Aug mixed lawn. What should I do?

I'm not ready to pull the trigger on MSMA and going full on Bermuda yet. That's for next year.
