Did you want the Zoysia and St Aug or the Bermuda?

In the backyard I only wanted Zoysia. Somehow the St. Aug infiltrated the yard (probably because Zoysia is dormant for so much longer) and took over a pretty big patch. The front is 85% St. aug which I'd prefer and 15% Bermuda, but I'm just over it for now. If this was my forever home, I would probably dive deeper into fixing this problem.

I have crab grass in my Bermuda St. Aug mixed lawn. What should I do?

Well, I can recommend pre-emergent Dimension herbicide, applied in mid Feb for crabgrass control, I’ve had great results with it controlling crabgrass in my lawn - used to be a major problem, no longer.

However for post-emergent control in a combo St Aug/Bermudagrass lawn like that you also better email Dr. Strahan with that question rstrahan@agcenter.lsu.edu.

I’m trying to do the opposite, getting St Aug to crowd out common Bermuda in my backyard. No herbicide I can use for that. Dr Strahan recommends cutting the grass high, seems to be working but it will take several years.

Anyone have an easy way of keeping birds from feasting on fresh grass seed?

Yeah, I'm ready to give up the fight in my back yard. Every time I whack big sections of weeds, Bermuda wins the race, so I'm ready to just roll with it. I may just start killing strips of areas with MSMA and let the Bermuda move in. By the end of the season the conversion will be well on its way.

I’m hoping St Augustine will win the battle over Bermudagrass but I have my doubts, if so I’m OK with it, just one or the other, not a mixture of both.

Anyone ever use liquid lawn aerator? This stuff has been popping up in the ad bars when I visit this board. Just curious if it is worth a darn and how it actually works.

FRIGGING CRABGRASS!
My neighbor is a little less concerned and it has creeped into my yard. I put dimension down about a month ago and also sprayed with Atrazine. Nada.
Looking at this stuff. LINK

What say you.

I recently sodded with ST. Aug (4+weeks).
I have some extra 13-13-13 and was going to use this to start the fertilization process but wanted to make sure this would not be an issue for a new lawn, this time of year.
I also am interested in recommendations for what fertilizer to add later in the summer.
The turf has set well and looks very healthy if that is a factor...

Thanks fellas.

My centipede was, but I had some spurge that I had to get rid of. Chemicals burned the lawn back a bit, but in a couple weeks my centipede will be back at full strenff

Straight 46-0-0 Urea. $22 at Ewing’s.

I wasted money back in March on a 18-5-2 fert only to later do a soil test and find out that I’m all good on P-K. They recommended 46-0-0 and it got my St. Aug’s dick hard.
