quote:I've got the same issue in my backyard, the soil is really compact because of 2 big thirsty oak trees which is why im gonna aerate this spring, but I've always had weed and grass thinning problems over the winter and spring is usually pretty ugly back there, however when summer is in full swing, the st. aug is pretty much taken back over and thickened up those patches where the weeds were. I'd highly recommend putting down a solid pre emergent in the fall to prevent as many winter weeds as humanly possible as well as aerating in the fall to allow for more room for those grass roots to dig themselves down during the winter.
Giving up on my back yard. It's been wet since November it seems like and the St Augustine is disappearing and being replaced by poa annua. Once that dies off with the heat I don't know if I'll have anything left but dirt

I had great success killing all the weeds in my centipede grass, but now there are massive patches of dirt and mud everywhere. I want to seed the yard with something that will really be thick
Any suggestions?

I understand... Centipede is not very thick.
Is it a bad to have two kinds?
I really want to do rye grass this coming winter

Depends on what other species you use. I have St. Aug and Centipede in my front yard from the previous owner and they do fine together.

I sprayed image about 3 weeks ago and it barely fazed the POA. I'm coming back with some Bayer southern lawn spray today to take out the broadleaf stuff.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a home soil test kit. I am about to hydro seed in a few weeks and I would like to test the soil to see if I need to add anything to the soil.
Does anyone have an opinion on adding a fertilizer to the mix? I’d like to promote growth but don’t want to burn the grass

What would be your go to lawn starter fertilizer when seeding Bermuda?

Main concern would be the nitrogen (first number), at 1/2-3/4 lb per 1000sqft

I've used the Soil Savy Test Kit off of Amazon. Very detailed and easy to do.

So a 46-0-0, hit it at a little over 1/2lb per 1000sq ft a few weeks after planting?
Also, whats the best method for controlling damage being done by dog urine? He tends to go in the same exact spot every time, just hose it down every time he does or get him to spread the wealth?

If using a 46-0-0, to put down .5# of actual Nitrogen per 1000sqft: .5 / .46 = 1.08
So you need to use 1.08 pounds per 1000sqft.

I am still trying to decide if I want to spend $700 (plus me doing the labor) to resod my front yard. I hate torpedograss. I was hopeful that one pallet would be enough, but I don't think it will be.

Your talking about two pallets for $700right?

Yeah, 2 pallets + delivery + sod cutter rental.

Boot. What is this crap and what can I kill it with in centipede? I’ve got atrazine, sethox, and a cheap 3way with 2-4d. Three different pics, two different weeds.
