Why is leg press frowned upon by powerlifters?

It just seems like the running joke with them is that leg press is for pussies. Is there a reason for this?

It's bodybuilding equipment

I bet most powerlifters frown upon any movement not involving a barbell

This.

Powerlifters can't be caught without one. They also like to tell you how many carbs they're putting down at 25% bf.

I used them as a secondary lift to squats and front squats when I had one available, but I haven’t used one on a while.

This. Presses are for hypertophy and squats are for strength.

Because they have no real carry over to anything in powerlifting.

It's super easy to cheat and ego lift. Also, you can leg press a ton and it doesn't have much carryover to actual strength in other movements or the real world without a buttload of other assistance movements.

Are you being serious? Or is this like a....'squat rack is great for curls' kinda snide remark?

Cause I don't think I've ever in my life done a set on leg press and not super-setted it with calf raises. Am I being a douche? I love leg press calf raises....I'd hate to have to stop

Thor, Brian Shaw, Martins Licics, Mateusz are all strongmen/powerlifters that I don't really consider fatasses...they're just built like fricking tanks

Eddie Hall and Savickas were definitely huge though...but both of them have slimmed down a lot

Agree with all of these except Shaw.

Dude is massive, no doubt. And I surely wouldn't say it to his face, but he's about as stereotypical of a powerlifter build as it gets. He's round.

Yeah, I kind of threw him in there because he's just massive

I'm just saying that when I would think of someone being 6'8, 450 pounds, I'm thinking of someone from my 600 pound life, not Shaw

I don't know, I wouldn't go with round for Shaw. He isn't ripped, but he isn't fat, just effing big. Here he is next to Mr. Olympia Phil Heath:

Hell yeah. Ever tried the calf workout from DC training on a leg press?

What do you define as fat? He has a lot of muscle for sure, but he also look like he has at least 50lbs or more of excess fat.

I'm not exactly sure how I can explain it, but I'll try.

What I see as someone who's fat, I see someone who doesn't do anything except eat and sit around all day. No purpose for anything but, just, well, being fat.

With guys like Brian Shaw, I see it as a functional thing due to their careers as strongmen/powerlifters. They need that weight to push/pull/press things because it gives them an advantage. For them, it's a functional purpose, and not because it's a "hey look at me I'm a powerlifter I can eat anything I want hahah" type thing.
