Why do so many people use ground turkey rather than ground beef?

I see this so much including in this board and design my get it. Do people prefer the taste? The fact that it’s cheaper. The perception that it’s healthier?

ground beef has particular taste that always comes through as ground beef were as turkey just takes on the flavor of your seasoning / dish.

Ground turkey is cheaper??? 93/7 turkey isn’t. It’s the fact that I can get 25-30 grams of protein for 150-250 calories rather than 350-450. Now if I’m not cutting, then bring on the beef

ETA: I do see that ground turkey is cheaper than store ground beef. I stand corrected. I’ve been getting ground beef for $3.50 at Costco and once 3.25 at the butcher for 88/12, but it’s 3.99 now

I cook 80 20, then rinse it in hot water in a colander. Makes it like 93/7 from what I've read

Maybe I'm the crazy guy, but I like the taste of ground turkey better than ground beef, but I like both so I eat both throughout the week.

For realz? I may have to do this. 93/7 is hard to find at time and is high as giraffe nuts.

One of the cooking tips they give you post heart attack is to rinse the leanest ground beef in a colander after cooking. I did this several times, but don’t care to do it all the time. I just cook the shite out of it then sometime do the colander without the water.

I find the ground turkey tasty for lighter eating, and beef when I want heavy.

I like turkey burgers and turkey tacos are good if you use the right seasoning. I like turkey spaghetti too

I’m about to have to figure something out. I love ground deer meat with no fat added but despite a great season I’m already about out. Our family eats it like crazy. I’ll have to check into the washing beef method.

I don’t do it but I think I read it here. You cook whatever ground meat, rinse it in hot water, then flash fry it in the pan. Reduces the calories

Can't remember the last time I bought ground beef. I kill mine. Elk, Deer, etc.

What about the seasonings? That’s gonna go with the water no?

The thought is you strain the beef immediately after cooking with warm water and then apply seasoning last.

I do agree with the poster that said Turkey does a better job taking the flavor of dishes as it never overpowers.

Give it a try. I season and cook my 80/20, then rinse pretty well in hot water, return to hot pan and cook any remaining water off. Tastes fine and saves alot of fat calories.

I eat a shite ton of meat. I have some form of beef almost every day. One day I decided I should probably be mixing up my protein sources so that I get all my micros and I started adding more chicken and fish to the rotation but I still eat beef almost every day. Then I decided to add ground turkey to my scrambled eggs every morning. No real reason other than variety

Any suggestions from the HFB on the best source and/or brand for ground turkey in the Baton Rouge, Prairieville, Gonzales area?
