What’s this board’s opinion on people cycling different machines at the gym?

On the one hand I can understand why someone would want to do this.

On the other hand some people try to claim 2 or 3 machines at once and get upset if you want to jump in on one while they’re using another.

If the gym is barely populated then I typically don't have a problem with it.

With it being January if I see someone trying to claim different machines or racks I'm going to tell them to frick off.

My son went last night and he said our gym was slammed at 8:30. It's usually dead at that time.

I just got back from lifting and there were at least a half dozen people filling out membership paperwork while I was there.

I don’t mind doing it and sometimes do it myself. I also understand if one of the ones in my cycle gets taken. I’m not going to go say “hey bro I’m using all 3” I’ll just fit something else in on that rotation.

Running PPSA it’s not uncommon to have to run multiple pieces of equipment during a superset. I feel like an absolute a-hole doing it and will only attempt it when the gym is near empty.

It’s common courtesy to not super-set in a crowded gym. If I need the machine and this is taking place, I’ll hop on a machine as soon as they leave the area. Then I’ll sit on it until I’m done with my four sets.

It’s fine but not acceptable to commandeer multiple machines. Once you move to another machine, the old one is fair game

my gym only has 3 racks, one being a smith machine, to do bench press, squats, ohp, on. if I walk in and someone is on another machine with weight on the bar on a rack ill take it over with the quickness idgaf.

Time and place. 5pm and packed? frick off with that. 10pm and you’re not in anyone’s way? Go for it. In either event, you should let people work in at bare minimum. It’s just basic courtesy.

Join the garage gym master race and you don’t have this problem anymore though.

This drives me insane, personally. It's frustrating to wait for someone to play on their phone when I could hop on. It takes two seconds to readjust the seat, etc.

Your rights end when they infringe on the rights of others IMHO. This is one of the biggest things I see in public gyms, we have become so self centered now that we are not mindful of others. I think it is common courtesy not to attempt occupying several machines at once in a crowded gym. If you do attempt it, at least allow others to work in at their desire. When I superset/giant set in a way that occupies more than one piece of equipment, I do so at times when the gym is near empty.

Mostly that's true, but it just gets annoying even having to ask. Most people have air pods in and can't hear you. Faces buried in Instagram. Needing to "rest" for a long time (and maybe answer some email) in between sets lol.

Magnetic tag with a sign saying "please ask to work in"? I always wondered if that would make it ok.

Hell, I struggle in my home gym with a work out partner that gets in my way. My 12 year old hasn't learned gym etiquette, like don't walk behind, or anywhere around the bar when someone is using it. I was deadlifting last week and mid set he asked where the 5lb weights were. DA, on the weight tree where every weight is
