Haven't been feeling well or like myself lately and it's time to get back into the gym and drop some weight. Currently 240lbs and looking to create a sustainable lifestyle to reach 210lbs. Any recs on high volume/ low calorie foods to help create a new lifestyle that actually taste good? Obviously vegetables but open to any recommendations. Thanks!
Update: Down to 232 this morning. I've done this in the past where I get complacent with the results and the bad eating habits come back because "I'm down 8 pounds". Any suggestions on how to push through the complacency?

What's your height?
Meat is delicious, the rest of that shite is take it or leave it as far as I'm concerned.

Not directly on point, but don't rely just on diet. Lift weights as well. I am almost back down to what I weighed when I did my Ironman, but look and feel much better. And the weight came off faster.
Ironman training was all cardio, I did no weight training. Now I'm lifting 3 days a week and doing cardio as well. Huge difference in results.

Diet has always been my issue. 6 months ago I was working out 6-7 days a week weight training and put on 15 solid pounds.

Not intending to be discouraging in any way but why the 210 goal? Why not shoot for 190 and bring yourself inline with a healthy BMI? You're really not as far away as you might think with legit lifestyle changes.

Try to find a farmer's market in your area for fruits/vegetables.
I'm enjoying a cantaloupe right now and it's ridiculous how much better it tastes than a store bought one.

Describe your current diet for some context.

Chicken Salad is on the menu for today.

Haven't been 210 in 5+ years. Would be a good starting point goal to achieve before moving forward.

I have an issue with binge eating and starvation cycling. As of late I've been eating pretty much anything that taste good in sight. That's why I'm looking to find a diet that works for me that is sustainable.

Do small changes. Don’t go drastic.
Jimmy Johns instead of Burger King.
Granola bar instead of ice cream.
Coke Zero instead of Coke.
Start drinking tons of water.
Don’t get burnt out by trying to revamp your whole diet overnight. Do it over time. This worked for me.

Gotta fix this, bud.
I'd start by tracking your caloric intake for a few weeks so you'll know where you're at. From there, you can spot items that should be replaced.

Sometimes I just need a crunchy snack and air popping popcorn with some oil and flavoring has been a lifesaver. You can get a crapton of popcorn for 60g (2 servings at 110 calories each), then hit it with 50 calories of total oil to cook and 10 calories of some sort of seasoning salt. Less than 300 calories for a legit snack with a ton of fiber. I even do 3 servings some days and it's less than 400 calories for a great snack with tons of fiber and even a reasonable amount of protein (10+ grams)

You are talking about 15% to 20% of your daily calories if you are eating 2k per day for something that brings zero nutritional value.

Do you cook? What are some foods you consider healthy that you enjoy eating? When you go through these cycles of bad choices is it mostly takeout and to go stuff, or is this food you keep at your house?

I did a sugar "cleanse" 3 years ago. Go to meal was baked boneless chicken thighs (season, brown in cast iron skillet, and toss in oven), roasted veggies (any combo of zucchini, squash, red onion, asparagus, carrots, red bell pepper, etc. w/ light olive oil & seasoning on a cookie sheet in same oven as thighs) and rice or quinoa. typically added Crystal for some extra flavor. Since you don't have restrictions, you can sprinkle a little cheese in. 3 years later and still make it all the time for work lunch.
Sugar cleanse is overboard for most (I had to), but it was an eye opener seeing how much crap has loads of sugar.

For me, the binge/starve cycle was a symptom of stress triggers in my life. We form neural pathways to respond to stress. There's a good acronym that helps explain this: BLAST: boredom; loneliness; anger; stress; tired. Research has shown that any addiction has a connection to one of these triggers that aggravates emotional negativity. As most people live on a routine, these triggers occur around the same time leading to a craving (not necessarily just food) to avoid them.
For example, every day around 4pm-7pm, I am prone to ruin my healthy eating. Perfect eating all day until the late afternoon, early evening. It took me forever to understand why. Why, despite being determined to be consistently healthy, would I make the same bad choices with food at the exact same time every day? For years?
Well, I would be tired from working all day at a job that doesn't really challenge me and then have the stress of doing the evening routine (dinner, dishes, bed time) with my kids. I formed neural pathways that created a pattern of binge eating sweets around this time to avoid facing the realities in my life.
I bring all this up because "sustainable" is an interesting topic to me right now. So many people yo-yo with their diet. They binge/starve/diet/overeat over and over again never adopting a true lifestyle change that positively impacts who they are. The diet is only part of the equation and outside of caloric deficit for weight loss and protein intake for muscle development, it doesn't matter.
Just something to think about going forward.
