It's actually a bit more complicated than that. Basically, your body has not adjusted to using ketones as an energy source. It's still searching for glucose, but there is little or none available. Your body is creating ketones, but most of them are going out in your urine. That's where the dehydration and electrolyte imbalances come into play. It only lasted about 48 hours for me, thank god.

How do you manage constipation under Keto? I’ve used this off and on for years to control weight and really don’t have any other problem than this in maintaining (except eliminating beer and wine...but I digress) a low carb diet.

The second week is miserable and I can’t figure out how to get enough fiber. I know it’s not a water issue. Does it just pass (no pun intended), do you need to load up on probiotics, what gives?

I eat leafy greens when I do ketosis. Like a salad with mainly just the leafy greens in it. IDK if that would help ya but I never had that problem.

I’ve never had this problem but I eat greens every meal. You could take fiber supplements.

It's important to stay hydrated and maintain your electrolytes, especially during the first month. That will help with some of the digestion issues you might run into. It might also help to get some probiotics on board. Whatever amount of water you think you should be drinking is probably not enough the first couple of weeks.

I've been doubling up on my fluids and taking potassium and magnesium supplements daily while also adding pink Himalayan salt to everything. I haven't have too many issues. I'm also a distance runner, so that might be helping keep things moving as well.

Anyone make a keto jambalaya? I've got a hankering but don't want to break ketosis. I've done much better on it than I thought I would.

I've made one using cauliflower. It actually tasted damn fine but the consistency was so far off it was disappointing.

I’d probably just cook chicken & sausage in jambalaya spices rather than use the cauliflower. The texture would be disappointing.

I did Keto from May 2019 till last week , had blood work and my triglycerides were high and my LDL Cholesterol was higher than my Dr wants it.

Have any of you had this issue and if so how did you correct it ?

From what I understand, as you lose weight, your body releases cholesterol into your bloodstream. This is discussed daily on the keto subreddit. I tend to skip the posts, since my cholesterol is super low, but it’s normal and typically goes back down. This is an example post: LINK

They also regularly refer people to The Cholesterol Code: LINK

I tried it for 3 weeks. My fitness took a big hit. I may have adjusted more over time, but as an older athlete, the wait isn't worth it. My heart rate went back to fit range within 24 hours of stopping keto.

Are you saying your basal heart rate was elevated?

My heart rate was elevated altogether. My resting hr was like 20 bpm higher, and I was having to almost walk to keep my HR at was previously easy running pace. My weight lifting also regressed.

My resting HR was 45 when I started keto. It was in the 70s once I entered ketosis. I gave it 3 weeks to start coming back down, but it never did.

For the constipation issue I ate berries and low carb whole grain tortillas here and there to get more fiber, only if it fits your macros.

You weren’t drinking my ketoaid. It’s common to have heart palpitations but I’ve never heard of someone’s resting heart rate increasing so substantially. The ketoaid recipe in the OP would have cleared that issue up within 3 days maximum.

Drink the ketoaid in the OP. Drink until your stool becomes soft. Trust me you will know and you will not have constipation issues.

Just wanted to add a little to this thread. I've done the Keto/Low Carb WOE before with great success. I have a few questions as well as some suggestions to help with sticking to the low carb WOE.

First off, I only read the first 20 pages of this thread, so forgive me if I repeat anything mentioned previously.

Suggestion #1: for those of you who like to drink alcohol, try to Corona spritzers. They have ZERO carbs, and taste pretty good.

Suggestion #2: if you have a sweet tooth like myself, you can find low carb recipes online for just about any type of pastry or baked good, most of which use almond flour and artificial sweeteners and berries (but be careful with those artificial sweeteners, we typically cut the amount called for at least in half when baking). We've made muffins, muffin bread, pancakes, donuts, etc.

Suggestion #3: You can also find recepies to make most if not all of your favorite foods online. We've done pizza, "fried" chicken, fried fish (the Slap ya Mama fish fry has only one carb per serving I believe), chilli (not using the pre mixed chilli seasonings, but making our own mixtures of spices) enchilada stuffed bell peppers, and a handful of other foods that all taste great and aren't that hard to make.

Suggestion #4: for me, food prepping for "snacks" are the most important. Helps me keep those between meal cravings in check.

Suggestion #5: if you don't like black coffee, try adding some "premiere protein" to it instead of an artificial sweetener. Half a chocolate shake and the rest coffee in a 20oz tumbler is pretty dang good (and only one carb), and there is a caramel flavored one as well.

Question #1: Have any of you been able to find accurate nutritional facts for a hamburger patty from any fast food places? Obviously, fast food is not ideal, but sometimes a craving pops up, and all that will ease it is a greasy fast food burger.

My other questions seem to have escaped me at the moment, but I'm sure they will come to me soon enough.

I'm currently on day seven of low carb, and going strong

I did Keto from 2014 to 2017. Moved to Houston in late 2017 and started lazily watching what I eat. At this point, I've gained back half of the weight I originally lost.

Back on the keto paintrain since Monday. One positive thing I've noticed is there definitely seems to be more "keto friendly" commercially made products than 5 years ago.
