There’s no satisfaction when eating sweets or high-sugar foods.

I’m sitting here at 10:40pm having eaten more calories today than I have since Christmas (and I eat a lot training for marathons), and I can’t sleep because my stomach is saying it’s hungry.

Last week I went four days cutting sugar from my diet and focusing on high protein and fat and veggie meals. Some carbs were included but it was a small amount. I had clarity of thought, more consistent energy, better sleep, and less hunger pains and that was just after four days.

Then we brought ice cream into the house and my wife purchased Girl Scout cookies. And we had a Costco sized box of fruit snacks and then a bunch of Valentines Day candy. And today my wife brought home muffins and bagels leftover from a work thing and I ate everything.

I’m so fricking hungry right now, and MyFitnessPal says I ate around 4000 calories with 2000 of it being sugar.

Tomorrow I’ll feel lethargic, spaceheaded, bloated, and hungry. I’ll have strong cravings for more sugar and will probably be ornery at some point when my body realizes that I am only eating healthy foods. I won’t sleep well tonight and will probably wake up in the middle of the night due to blood sugar levels.

All because of sugar. It should have a dire warning label on it just like alcohol and cigarettes do.

I agree with this. It’s amazing how much energy and mental clarity I have when I stay away from sugar. You feel incredible.

You’re right, humans didn’t evolve to eat sugar or concentrated sweets. For eons, the only sugar humans ate was from fruit and berries.Europeans had honey bees,I’m not sure when they started harvesting honey.Sugar especially screws the health of Native Americans.

I understand you're frustrated right now.

Having the government regulate sugar because you can't regulate yourself isn't the answer. If you truly can't control yourself around those foods and find yourself binging, it sounds like you have BED and should be visit a therapist. Not trying to be mean or an arse. My struggles are well documented on this website and have no room to judge.

Sugar, in and if itself, is not poison nor inherently bad. It is simply a quick-burning carbohydrate. The dose makes the poison. If you find yourself binging there's a deeper issue.

Slowly, sugar is beginning to be blamed for numerous effects on the brain. I find it fascinating we let sugar in, yet as you mention, alcohol is controlled. So many health issues are tie to sugar intake: obesity, T2 diabetes, depression, fatty liver, RA, gout (yes), ADHD, heart disease, sleep apnea, and a litany of other issues. It frightens me on how I will cope with raising children when everything, every fricking thing, at school revolving around sugar - which will bring out behavior problems.

I agree with you, but you need to break your addiction. I know it is a bitch and I still have cravings. I just had to tell myself I couldn't eat it. Now, it all tastes weird to me if I sneak a small bite.

The real science behind sugar and Americas health problems needs to become more mainstream.

Sugar waged war on fat in the 60s and won.

People are finally realizing fat isn’t that bad for you, whereas sugar is terrible over the long haul.

Did a 3 month sugar cleanse eliminating all added sugars, and keeping natural sugars/processed foods to a minimum. Felt better 3 days in and weight flew off for the first few weeks. I'm trying to slowly gain muscle mass, and had to just about double portion sizes to not lose weight. Fell off the wagon due to a trip to Europe, but getting back on a more relaxed version of it now. I'll eat/drink whatever when out with friends, but its too easy to follow on my own to not. It was shocking to see how much sugar was in my day to day foods. Haven't had a coke in months.

HealthLine (so grain of ...sugar) But On Point

quote:

“Medical addiction changes brain chemistry to cause binging, craving, withdrawal symptoms, and sensitization,” says Greene. “Excess added sugar can do this too, through changes in the same pathways as addiction to amphetamines or alcohol. Sugar addiction could be an even harder habit to break, according to recent evidence about how added sugar affects our stress hormones.” Sugar is also much more prevalent, available, and socially acceptable than amphetamines or alcohol, and so harder to avoid.

Everyone in this thread should look into berberine as a supplement to add to your daily routine.

If you're really daring then you will find a way to get your hands of metformin.

frick that, frick warning labels, frick making anything else a controlled substance dont need any more government intervention or telling people what to do. Need to get the government out of all of this bullshite. We wouldnt have to pay for the fat people if the gov didnt get involved in the first place.

and frick anybody that says we need more government anything.......yea i said, frick anybody that believes that shite.

oh and OP, sugar didnt make you fat, your lack of will power and overeating on calories did.

yes this shite pisses me off, yes i am a dick on this subject. move to a state that has more regulations if you want that shite. dont force that bullshite on me and take away more of my tax dollars to pay for it.

There's a deeper issue here like has been mentioned above. Sounds like control is a big part of it. You can go all the way healthy with what you eat, and slip on one thing and then all hell breaks lose and it never seems to end. I have this issue with alcohol so I can't judge

When I went wfpb vegan giving up sugar was the hardest thing. I felt like a crack addict. Eventually the cravings subsided and the taste went away.

Crazy thing is my wife for some reason bought my chocolate for Valentines. I ate some to be nice and bam! Craving the shite again. I was at the store last night looking at cake mix and wanting to buy it and eat as much as I could.

The struggle is real.

At the end of the day you need to be mentally strong enough to skip it and not eat it. Government warnings are for the weak minded and sheep.

Question. I'm actively trying to cut sugar out of my life, but what about aspartame? Is that as harmful as sugar? I drink these powdered, boxed drink mixes, but that stuff may not be entirely healthy.
