The “standard of care” once someone is diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic should be the following:
1) Rx for a constant blood glucose monitor
2) $10 donated to St Jude’s every time that damn thing reads ~120+. (I pulled 120 out my arse as a “higher number”)
We’d knock out 85 birds with one stone...obesity, depression, adhd, joint pain, RA, fatty liver, eczema, hormone dysfunction, ED, gun shot wounds, bank robberies, and mail fraud. Plus the kids would have a better shot at fighting cancer.

I am have mixed feelings on the issue, but at the core, I don’t think the gov should be able to restrict food choices. Slippery slope and what if the same shady science from the 70s and 80s that villainized fat rears it’s ugly head in 30 or 40 years. Before someone says that it’s a ridiculous notion, remember, we knew that low carb diets were effective in the 1800’s. There were several documented clinical advantages when treating certain chronic illnesses during the 1900’s that were all mysteriously forgotten as well when the latest round of food recommendations came out.
All that said, what needs to happen is a restatement of the dietary guidelines assuming a sedentary population. The new guidelines should have upper limit suggestions on added sugar that are much lower than currently stated. So, in this way, behavior can be modified without banning anything. Also, subsidies to the corn, soy, and wheat farming really need to be decreased. This will also impact consumer decisions as poorer quality foods would become more expensive.
It’s a complicated issue to tackle and many people would need to address it from various angles.

I’ve cut sugar a lot recently. Been shedding pounds like crazy lately. But I don’t really believe the mental clarity thing. I think people are just experiencing placebo effect with that
