Settle a debate for me: How unhealthy is bbq?

I am debating this with my girlfriend. I am going to take some clients to BBQ tomorrow and she instantly starts saying it’s super unhealthy. I told her I typically just get brisket (which I know is fatty) and pork ribs with collard greens and green beans. Obviously it’s not the healthiest meal but it’s mostly proteins and veggies because I don’t typically use any sauce so I assume it can’t be terrible for you. I’m new to health (since I use to rely solely on my fast metabolism) so I may just be stupid, am I completely wrong?

What isn’t health about beef brisket or anything meat wise at a BBQ? The only things that are unhealthy are the sugar laden sauces they are smothered in and the carbs that are typically served alongside it. A good 1lbs of beef brisket or pulled pork, etc is extremely healthy.

And greens and green beans are both good as well

In a very small amount. The human body isn’t designed to intake fiber.

Maybe this is her subtly telling you that you are a fatass and need to stop eating. In that case don’t go to the BBQ and do an immediate 72 hour water fast followed by a fasting focused ketogenic WOE.

Going low carb, high fat for a meal is not necessarily ideal. If you're not going with an entire low carb, higher fat strategy, you just wind up with carbs from other meals and more total calories.
That said, one meal won't kill you. Building in a cheat meal or two can work for most all dietary needs. If you're on track otherwise, one BBQ meal won't change that track.

You're his woman?
Edit: just a joke, not trying to start anything.

The meat itself is fine. It’s the sauce that’s unhealthy. A BBQ every now and then won’t make you fat.

Why must you be a dick bag in every thread? You are quickly becoming worse than big Scrub.

Brisket (moist end) and pork ribs. No sauce (or bring own sugar free). Collards w vinegar pepper sauce. They probably put sugar in them but it's a small portion usually. Unsweet tea.
Pretty damned healthy if you skip the shitty sides and sauces.

I think brisket, ribs, collard greens, and green beans are all fine to eat. There are definitely different camps on here and the debate sometimes gets heated, but I think we can all agree that processed and refined foods are probably the most unhealthy for us to consume. The four foods you listed are all whole foods, so don’t be concerned while eating them. A little warning though, I call ahead to restaurants given some food sensitivities that I have. A local BBQ shop in Houston actually bastes all of their meat products with a butter sugar combo. So, assuming they just smoke the meat with salt and pepper, I wouldn’t worry. It’s when they get cute with added sugars or BBQ sauces that I would start to become weary.

But to be fair, BBQs were never about healthy eating. It’s about good eating. So, I would just make that your cheat meal.

BBQ has been linked to cancer

Man frick all y’all.
Pulled pork on a buttered bun smothered in sugary, peppery sauce complemented by Mac and cheese, baked beans (with sugary, peppery sauce), potato salad, and collard greens, all washed down with a gallon of sweet tea and finished off with a giant bowl of banana pudding is as healthy for my soul as Jesus Christ himself.
But that’s like once a month. Maybe.

She is brain washed. Just avoid the bbq sauce and the potato salad.
