Anyone have any recommendations on the better/best running shoes? Trying to get back into the jogging/running game and my New Balance daily shoes aren't cutting it. Looking to keep it in the $100-$150. Will mostly be running on a High School track and occasionally down an asphalt road when track is closed. Thanks for any recommendations!

Edit: Ended up grabbing a pair of Brooks Ghost and so far I am highly impressed. Extremely comfortable and smooth. Doing around 10-15 miles a week to get back into the groove and will likely increase mileage over the next few weeks.

My suggestion...go to a store like Fleet Feet where they'll fit you and let you try out as many different kinds of running shoes as you want.

There are more types and variations of running shoes than you could ever imagine these days, and price is no indication how how good they are. I would go try on at least 3 options from each of the following brands; Altra, Nike, Brooks, and Asics. If the place you go to has a treadmill you can test them on, even better.

I used to run in Asics and enjoyed them, no complaints from me but this was about 10 years ago. I feel the running shoe brands/industry has blown up since then. Thanks for the advice.

I like Brooks but I would go to a running store and get fitted.

If you like New Balance, you can go to an actual New Balance store, there is one in Towne Center if you're in Baton Rouge. They will have you stand on a machine to see how your feet carry your weight. They will also watch how you walk and tell you whether you need a pronate, supinate, or neutral shoe. Then they will show you what options they have available for each. I imagine some of these other stores mentioned will do the same thing but I have only been to the New Balance store personally.

I love how I'm supposed to walk a couple of DUI test lines and be able to tell if this is the shoe I want to run 10 miles in.

go to a running store that lets you run in them for 30 days and return them. there is no 'magic bullet' when it comes to running shoes, everyone is different. most stores try to push whatever line gave them the best deal at the time. i saw the Fleet Feet post, they're currently pushing New Balance. i personally think NB is a pretty bad training shoe but as i said earlier if it works for you that's all that matters. i've run in almost all brands, and many models, since the late 70's, so all i can give you is my 2 cents. college athletes and the pros can run in ANYTHING, us weekday warriors can not. i'm over 50 now and have always had nagging injuries every 18 months or so, except the last 5 years. i tried the On Running Cloudsurfer and it worked for me. as i got used to it i was able to move to the Cloudflow model. when you try the shoe on it is nothing special and i would never wear it for anything else, but it works for ME ! i won't shoot down any other recs that are backed up on this site. hope you find the right one.

*** I was a slight overpronater that that learned to run on forefoot. i ran in Newton after this time, when i was a little younger and could run 'fast', but have since moved on to the On's.

Brooks only concentration is running shoes. If your focus is running then Brooks has you covered.

Please make sure you study and work on your running form and mechanics too if you are willing to invest in expensive shoes. Some guy watching you take 5 steps and selecting a shoe that will magically solve your problems is useless if you aren’t also actively correcting your form.

I mean, this is factually correct but Brooks is far from the best in the industry.

I understand completely. I ran track in high school and did a few 5ks in my 20s. By no means am I an amateur, but I'll agree I need to tune up my mechanics as I'm no longer a young pup. Appreciate the info.

good deal, with that background you are fine. My rec would be Nike Pegasus if you like a neutral shoe

I did this, they set me up with some New Balance, so I immediately thought to myself that New Balance was paying for this foot analysis equipment, but those shoes actually have been good for me.
I recommend

I recently got back into running (more trail running than on concrete, but running nonetheless). I went with the New Balance Fresh Foam Hierro v5...plenty of cushion, toe protection and under that $150 price point. I got them for a steal around $100 on Amazon

I was a Brooks guy forever.

Had one pair of Saucony Hurricanes that may go down in history as the most comfortable ever- they don’t make them in wild enough colors for me, so I didn’t get the latest.

Just strapped on a pair of Asics Gel Kyano 27- so far, so good.

I’m a heavy, underpronator, that needs a bit of a stability shoe.

FWIW- I tried Hoka Cliftons a few years back- was doing about 5 miles a day and all of a sudden had the worst Plantar Fascitis of my life. Like crippling during the run. I don’t know if it was the shoes, but I am terrified of Hoka now.
