I'd say pretty good.

The first 10 or 15 minutes are the worst for me. After I get past that I feel like I can run forever.

Percentage-wise, that is a lot of increase for one week. But, since you only run 2 days, adding a 3rd would not be a big deal.

Slow your pace a bit and you should be fine.

Add in a third day for 20-30 minutes to start with. Once you're doing that for about a month, and get accustomed to that, make one run a little longer. Shoot for 45 one week, then 50 the next, then 55, then an hour. Then once you're used to an hour once a week, up that 30 minute run. Baby steps will get you there. Keep a slightly slower pace on the long run. Running is one of those things that you can build your base up slowly and before you know it you're feeling great on a longer run.

Just wondering if I should be crushed having to walk it in or how awesome it would be to add that amount of time.

I think I can do it.

I mean it depends on what your goal is. If its just to run an hour to say youve run an hour i think you should be fine. If your body is used to 40 youre not likely to really hit a wall or anything until 55ish, if at all, as long as youre smart with pacing. If youre wanting to run for a distance goal then id take the poster aboves advice.

You could likely run for 2 hours or even longer if you run slower

He asked if he could run 60 minutes and we gave him ways he could make that happen. adding an extra day if he can afford it is probably a good way to do it

what he should do if we’re giving advice he didn’t ask for, is tell him to quit running altogether and lift another hour a day. Cardiovascular health is for pussies

What’s with the pervasive culture of negativity towards running on this board?

Was the same for me when I was younger and into running back in the late 70-80's. That first mile or so would find me searching for my rhythm and getting my breathing right with my pace. After that, it was pretty easy.

The first time I ran with a friend who'd been doing it for a few years I got gassed before a mile. I stuck with it and in a few weeks I was keeping up with him for 3 miles and we gradually increased out mileage to where we were doing 10 mile runs twice a week and 2 runs of 5 miles between that.

We got to where we were doing a 6 minute mile clip and the 10 mile runs were taking us 1 hours to finish. He continued upping his mileage to where he was running marathons and has completed dozens of them over the years.

I, on the other hand, took a second job and had no time for running for years, so I lost all I gained during that time.

My buddy still runs daily and the last time we spoke he told me he had just finished 11 miles-----------at age 74.
