37 degrees starting temperature had me contemplating getting in the car and heading home. Saw more deer than people on the Trace today.
I hear ya man. Same here, although I’m not a fan of the oppresive heat of course. Gimmie 75-80. Second half of that run yeaterday was brutal, cold, wind in my face 20-25 mph, etc. Not to mention I overdress (long sleeves) and then want to peel it off half way through. Hands numb, etc.
I know y’all boys up in Arky are laughing at us but damn!
Contemplated doing a recovery type run today, but decided to polish off the remaining beers in my fridge to remove the temptation for the coming week instead. Gonna try to dial it in this week for a 01:45-01:50 finish on Saturday. Sleep deprivation is my main conundrum right now and that’s in my one month old son’s hands as to whether he wants to help me out on that one!

I’ll take 37 over anything above 80 degrees.

Ran a race in the teens back in April, that was cold lol

Feel decent, haven’t started getting geared up yet. Trying to relax a couple more hours then head out!

Jealous dude! I’d be climbing the walls.

Well I figured I’d go out too fast and crash and burn, and that’s what happened lol

You have to give us more than that!
And I've been battling sickness and too much travel the last 2 weeks. I need to get back on track.

If anybody follows that dude Tommy Rivs on IG (good follow), it looks like he won the LV Marathon. Animal.
And yeah c’mon hb —- you gotta give us more than that! Obvious judge free zone here.
Edit -- Duuude - saw your result in Strava. Good stuff.

Great run Hogbody. Doesn't look like the late start messed with much at all, if any.
Looks like I may be sidelined for a bit. Stress fracture in my foot. Tried running through it for 2 weeks because I thought it was just sore ligaments. Texted my wife the bad news. She responded with "so are you going to be able to make groceries today?"

Damn BnG that sucks dude. I worry that I won’t take an injury serious when one hits. Like this ankle pain I’ve been dealing with off and on. It’s not anything that will cause me to stop a run or anything... yet. It’s like when do you cash it in and bite the bullet? Did you go to an Ortho or what? Oh and your wife sounds about like mine. Couldn’t be bothered with my running feats/issues.
I got in 6.1 this am/7:52 pace. Turned into a tempo run. Wanted a little more distance and was feeling amazing, but got hit with rain/wind around mile 5. Been feeling a possible cold coming on, so played it safe.
Loving running in the Escalante. I can definitely feel a positive difference in cadence/economy. Think I may break them out this Saturday at the Big Easy. Never raced in them before.

I saw he got 7/200 in his age group. Killed it.
Also, hb — I noticed on Strava that you haven’t been running much more than 25-30 mpw? That’s insane.

I’m 30, so no BQ with this one. It was my first though, and I definitely feel there’s some learning points from it. Maybe I can get sub 3 hours next year.
As for mileage, I only recently started using Strava so most of my mileage isn’t on there. I got a 22 mile run in 4 weeks ago, and probably had a touch over 40 miles that week.
Need to do a few things:
1. Shorter taper (4 weeks was way too long)
2. More speed work before training block
3. More mileage
4. Better pacing

this was your first marathon? if so, you could easily qualify for Boston
I took 28 minutes off from my 1st to 2nd

Congrats Hog. That is killing it.
I made it to the finish on my half. I set out with 3 goals: Finish, Don't stop for a break and under 2 hours. Unfortunately I fell short on #3 and finished in 2:07. I was still pleased considering I could probably barely run 2 miles 4 months ago without stopping.
The last 2 miles felt like I was running in quick sand. My knees and ankles are shot this morning.
I really enjoyed the experience though, for living in Vegas for the past 14 years, I never really go to the strip anymore so it was cool to run it at night. Still amazes me seeing all those lights and buildings.
--Side note my Strava app was way off, when I finished it said I only ran 9.4 miles. Weird.

You should definitely run another in the coming months. I dont know if my body can ever physically come close to going sub 3. Awesome to be that close on your first. Maybe look to a coach to help you through the taper. Theres an art to it. I agree 4 weeks is long. It's different for everyone, but I've done a race on 4 weeks due to my primary race getting cancelled the week before and it sucked. My races with a coach looking over what I'm doing in the last few weeks always had me feeling great on race day. I say that as someone who is skipping the coaching route for now, but realizes the benefit.
Today was 16.1 miles in 50 degree drizzle. As much a mental workout as it was physical. But it's one of those days where you have a huge sense of accomplishment knowing that you got out there and did it even though the conditions were horrible and you could have just skipped. Taking the rest of my day off to drink beer and watch TV, Haha.

Yeah it was my first.
I don’t think I’ll be taking 28 minutes off, I’d be happy with 9 though!
@KG I definitely feel better today about running one in the spring. Yesterday I didn’t want to think about running after the race.
This is my steps from yesterday

I did have a question about start groups/corrals? I honestly don't remember when I signed up if I had to put expected time or when I wanted to start.
I'm guessing the starts aren't random? I was in one of the last yellow group corrals, starting at 5:45pm. Just felt like the first 3 miles I was dodging and weaving through women in tutus, people in costumes, walkers and people stopping to take selfies every 2 minutes.
Not that it would have made a difference, but just felt it took me a while to get a good pace having to swerve alot.
