Second to last run before Saturday and I let my body do what it wanted. The schedule called for 4 miles, and I did it in 32:00 flat with my last two miles at a sub-8:00 pace. Last night was 3 miles in 25:11. This is the fastest I have ever felt.

Let's Do This!

Quick mile tonight at sub 8 minute pace, which is good for me. Was going to try and do one more but don't want to push it and I was not prepared to run in 40 degree weather. I did not pack accordingly.

Been "training" for the LA half marathon. I am not much of a runner, but set a goal for myself and I intend on completing that. I'll be running the Tiger 10k to see where I am at A month and 2/3 out.

Currently I have been running as close to 3mi/day taking 2 days rest per week.

Any tips? Training schedule I should follow? Nutrition? Stretching?

Watch as many YouTube videos as you can. What helped me alot was paying attention to cadence. I was over striding pretty bad when I first started really focusing on training. I’d take a look at a Hal Higdon plan, it’s pretty generic but great for beginners. No need to pay for one, you can just Google it and get all you need.

Are you doing a long run each week?

I’d like to get others opinions on stretching also. I intend on stretching after every run, but life gets in the way much of the time. I’d say I get a good 10-20 minute stretch on 70% of my runs. If I have time “GymRa post running Yoga” video is my go to. It’s about 20 mins. If I’m short on time I’ll just implement some of the stretches from that video, holding each for abt 30 seconds. I never stretch before running/cold. Like I said, hoping others chime in here as well.

It’s the most important run of the week and a staple of any training plan.

In a nutshell, you'll add a mile or so to each weekly long run, peaking at around a 12 miler ( for a half marathon training). You'll do this 12 mile run 2 weeks prior to the race.
The week prior to the race, you are letting your body recover from the training, so run about a 6 miler.

Example
Week distance
1. 4 miles
2. 5 miles
3. 6 miles
4. 7 miles
5. 8 miles
6. 9 miles
7. 10 miles
8. 11 miles
9. 12 miles
10. 6 miles
11. Half marathon race

Hal Higdon will get you across the finish line but depending on your base fitness level, it’ll probably suck arse doing so.

He gets you to about 20-25 miles per week at the training’s peak. You really need to hit 30 miles a week to feel comfortable racing a half.

The long run is crucial though.

I paid for the Higdon Novice I think it was and never got over 30 mpw. Although the more the merrier to an extent, I wouldn’t say 30 is absolutely necessary to feel comfortable running a Half.

I use my Altras as an everyrun shoe now except for races. EGO is the best foam on the market IMO.

My perfect shoe would be shaped like the Zoom Fly or Vapor but have the EGO in place of the Lunarlon or Zoom.
