That stretch of the race is through neighborhoods. The crowd fanfare may drop some but there are still plenty of families outside cheering the runners on with tables full of goodies. I think it would be fun to partake for once.

Yeah it definitely is a cool vibe, hats off to all of them sitting out in that cold cheering an giving away anything you want (beer, fireball, donuts, Jell-O shots and all kinds of race type food)
Ran a 4:40ish full maintaining a decent run walk pace but really slowed down at mile 20 with hip flexors tightening so didn’t push it. Now to see if I can recover in time for a 50miler next month.

I’ve heard the full marathon goes quiet once it splits from the half.

Dead silent. Still a lot of people cheering but it went from lively and fun to everyone left is in the pain cave really quick lol

Man that sucks. Putting the full on my "do not run" list

Congrats to everyone who ran though! Seeing lots of good results

Bad decision to wear cotton socks. My feet didn't feel good for the first 3 milles in the cold. Didn't meet my PR but lot of lessons learned and happy with it. Every race is a new lesson and I need to work on strength.

The pacers ran even splits btw.

That’s most marathons. Half gets all the good shite…full uses whatever is leftover for the back half.

Congrats to all the finishers, LA still my favorite road marathon.

I wear injinji toe socks, I wore the mid weights today and no issues. I know they are not for everyone but I love them and so far even a 50k with wet feet no blisters.

Def worth it to invest in running socks.

I've still been slowly ramping up to full Norwegian singles. Schedule has been threshold on Wednesday and Friday, easy on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, easy long run on Saturday. This'll be the first week I actually run 7 days a week instead of having 1 rest day. I added an easy run on Monday and eventually that will become my 3rd threshold day.

Today I did 10x3:00 with 60 seconds rest, averaged 6:43/mi pace.

Been chilly here but I like it. Twice last week and twice this week in the morning before getting kids up, between 21 and 32 degrees, 3.5 miles at around 9:20 per. It's so nice to not be sweaty after a run. Can't wait to see if I get a fun snow run on Monday morning, but if it's all ice like they say, I'm not that dumb and I don't have cleats to run in.

Laketown Distance Fest 10 miler this morning. This was my B goal race after opting out of the Big Beach Half. 1:07:28 / 5th overall / 1st in my age group. Wind aside, I felt really strong. This was far and away the best training block I’ve ever had and proof that mileage >>> anything else.

Weekly mileage peaked at 50, probably averaged around 40 for a month or more. Two workouts per week, hill sprints every other week, lots of work at threshold and race pace. Tough, but proof is in the pudding. I felt confident with 2 miles to go in this race, I think I’m in sub 1:30 half marathon shape. Might sign up for a 5k two weeks from now and go all out for the ever elusive sub 20 min 5k.

Hard post to follow…..

11.25 at 143HR 10min pace. Ran Black Creek Trail this AM. Old reclaimed rail bed perfect to break in my new Xero sandals. Not that cold, felt great.

I think you're selling yourself WAY short! I think you'd cruise to a sub 1:30 if a 10 miler at 6:45 pace was your B goal. And you're probably closer to a 19 minute 5k than 20 dude.

Well, B goal as in it was my B race for the year.

I admit I benefitted greatly from the wind on the second half, but I finished 1:07 and felt I could’ve held another 3.1 @ 7/mile no problem so that would’ve put me at a 1:28/1:29 half. All speculation and bench racing though

The 5k is just a mental thing at this point.

It's gotta be. I don't think I'm in shape to run a 10 miler like that and I'm pretty confident I could go mid to low 19s for 5k. You'll hit that with ease. Any idea which 5k you would sign up for to try it out? I'm looking for a race to see what my fitness is like and recalibrate my workout paces

There is one next weekend but too close for me. Eyeing the Mardi Gras 5k in front of Lakeside 2/8. Gotta clear it with the Mrs first.
