When you do 400s and 1k or 1m what pace do you aim for and how long do you recover in between?

For 400m I go just about as hard as I can. The biggest thing I'm going to change the next time I do them is I will try to reserve myself for the last intervals so I can do my fastest intervals at the end (this is going to start being a theme for me going forward, it teaches you how to hold back even when you don't want to)

For 1k (800m or 3min fartleks) I usually do what I want my 5k pace to be (or what v.02 says it should be)

For 1 mile repeats I'll usually keep it between my 5k pace and my 10k pace. (With my new training I might start just a little slower than 10k and work up to in between)

For recovery I don't really have to recover with 1m other than just slowing down and jogging for 400m, for 1k I'll usually do 200m of recovery, but will usually have to "stand recover" at least once at the last interval, sometimes the last two

For 400m repeats, I just really don't do them often, but I could see where I might have to do standing recoveries for most of them - my body would revolt 400m intervals, which means I should probably do them more often

P.S: on peak weeks I do mile and a half intervals with 400m jog recoveries - I will typically try to do them ~5k pace just as a fitness test at the end of my training

6 easy miles tonight at 141HR. Felt ok, not great. Pacing was slower than normal. Think I had too much tea today and jacked the HR some.

Rest day tomorrow. I need it.

My Monkey brain won this morning. I decided to not waste Vacation time on a long run and came to work. Got out of my car, went "nope" got back in my car and drove to work. I've accepted my decisions, tomorrow I get to volunteer and have fun and not worry about running.

Are you going to come to the Annual Party? It's always a blast, I'm trying to convince my wife to come with me

Probably not. I don't participate enough anymore to go.

This is mostly me just venting, but after training pretty hard for six months for two races in February, one next weekend, i got hit with the worst stomach bug I've ever had Wednesday. Lost 13 pounds in 24 hours. Tried to slow jog today and it was pathetic. Any chance i can recover by next weekend or am i sol for running a fast time next Saturday? Hopefully I'm overreacting but I'm feeling pretty deflated right now.

13 pounds in 24hrs is a dramatic change. I’d certainly rest.

Theory is a pound lost saves 1-2 sec per mile. You just knock 40 secs off your time. All seriousness you have time to recover. Hydrate. Get some extra sleep. Lace them up and let it rip.

Also you just had the stomach bug - don't let it rip too much unless you are prepared for a little extra

Counterpoint: if you don't shite yourself how can you be sure that you didn't have a little extra effort to give

16 miles today with a fast finish. 139 HR for 14 miles, then 165 for the last two. 7:35 and 7:15 respectively. Now, those were basically straight downhill so……1700’ of climb today.

Felt great. Drinking beers for lunch at Ferus Brewery.

valid.

There’s a spot on the front lawn of the berwick, La. post office where the grass likely grows extra thick thanks to yours truly.

Was on a night run and was getting after it good when it just hit me out of nowhere. Was able to duck behind a tree thankfully and handle business but was sketched out the entire time since it’s right off the highway there.

There are two types of runners: those who have shite themselves/in the open, and those who will.

Hell during a mile TT earlier this year I got dangerously close

I was in this camp until Thursday of this last week...

I'm officially in this camp now

I thought the saying was not to trust a fart after mile 20, not mile 3. I was about to hit 4 miles on an out and back 8 mile run, I was quite literally as far away from my car as I could have possibly been, it was terrible

I've had two emergency pit stops. Thankfully, Homewood and Mnt Brook have no shortage of remodeling jobs with port-o-lets.

Recovery week after the LA half / snow week is over. Missed one run due to ice, ended the week with 19 miles. Not much to get excited about there.
Training for the Zydeco Half with a 8:15/mile goal. Finished LA half with a 8:45 pace so I got some work to do in the next 7 weeks. 5 miles total this morning, mile repeats of 7:41, 7:36, and 7:51.

Stomach bug got us a couple weeks ago, felt pretty much normal within 72 hours…but it was the most miserable 72 hours of my life. The weight loss will help, I dropped 7 pounds in one day
