I think we have a fairly good honor among runners so far. Don’t screw with people in real life from Strava.

It only takes one a-hole to screw that up but team affiliation and political preferences stay on TD and SECr.

Checking back in. Been a long day!

Official times were posted. I finished 24 seconds behind the first guy and was behind him by 2:22 at the 10K. Another mile and I think I coulda caught him!

hogbody - what’s your approach to diet in general and around a race?

I’m general, I try to stick to around 1800-2000 calories during the week, but if I’m hungry I’ll take it as a sign that I should eat some more. Also try to do about 40% carbs/40%protein/20%fat but it’s flexible.

I used intermittent fasting a decent amount while I was losing the 60lbs. Still doing it sometimes during the week.

I have my long runs on sundays this training period. With that, I typically have a very large high calorie meal on Saturday evening that has a high number of carbs, and then I don’t eat before my long runs. I do have a Gu before long runs and about every 6 miles during run. I’m pretty good without hydration up to 13-14 miles depending on temps (didn’t have any during race today)

Banged out the Northshore Half this am. 01:56:00. Nothing special compared to most in this thread, but I’m good with it. Really pissed that I didn’t close earlier, like mile 11. Oh well, on to the next.

Going sub 2 on your first half with a newborn baby is helluva impressive

Hey man, you have me beat by 30 minutes. Good work.

Gotta say, not a fan of having to dodge cars the last 1.5 miles.

That's awesome! Great job TigeRoots.

I ran a gun start 8k this morning, one that I also ran last year. I shaved 7:50 off of last year's time. I am happy with the result.

10 mile run at my goal marathon pace (9 min/mile). Absolutely perfect day except for getting stung in the quad by a wasp at mile 9. Looked like huge spaz to the lady a quarter mile up . Lazily started the run at 9 and still don't think the temps got above 65.

Forgot to mention that I made a last minute decision to run that half in the 4%

Maybe they’re the reason for the fast time

Ha! Nike marketing would appreciate that comment! I'm not fast by any means and was passing dudes wearing the 4%. Isn't it true that you need to be of a certain speed for them to be "effective", otherwise they could be counterproductive?

While we're on shoes, I made a last minute decision to roll in Brooks Ghost due to the lower leg pain/numbness, even though I intended to run (and trained) in Adidas Solar Boost. Had minimal issues. Thinking maybe it was the shoes, which is good but I may have virtually wasted $180.

Adidas shoes are just way too expensive in my experience. I just picked up another pair of Brooks Ghost 10's for $82. They are so popular that I have never had an issue finding the previous model in my size. And worst case, the current model is $120 max.

I’m getting close to retiring my 9s and have a pile of replacement shoes in the closet before I can justify buying more but they’re still probably my all time favorite. Just solid in every aspect.

That’s my plan from here on out. When I need new shoes just wait for the new Ghost to come out and buy the previous year’s model. Still trying to see if the Escalante has a place in my training as well (bought last year’s model).

Crescent City Classic just sent out an email with race updates:

quote:

Race officials have restructured the qualification times for seeded runners in order to create a more even playing field for all runners and to increase seeding opportunities for women runners.

In addition, Corral D will now immediately follow Corral C
PRIOR to the Charity Corral.
This is to ensure the safety of our participants.

Corral A - 35:00 cut off
Corral B - 40:00
Corral C - 45:00
Corral D - 55:00

Then charity runners and general participants.

I think a lot of people will be happy they don't have to weave through drunks in tutus throughout the race

Good stuff. Planning to use my Race to Death Valley 10K time this year to at least get into the D corral. C may be a stretch for me right now, but possible.

I'm probably wrong, but I thought the Fall Classic was the only race you can use to qualify for the CCC.

I’m pretty sure you can use proof of results from a previous 10K.

Edit: yeah it looks like this is correct.
