On your long runs don't bother with stopping you watch for water / bathroom or any type of break that would normally occur. Running time isn't your focus for this adventure. whatever you plan to use for hydration (handheld vs pack with bladder) during race practice and get comfortable with it now if you aren't.

BoC- why you scared? its just a long overnight run through the woods....

I'm actually thinking about not bringing my hydration vest to this race. (Just a water bottle and flip belt) I'll have some nutrition and LMNT in my drop bags because everything I've heard about Tunnel Hill is it is VERY well supported with the aid stations

Have you ever looked into Pinhoti? It's a pretty brutal course... Lots of DNFs every year. I have faith in him, but yeah it's tough

The only 100m I've finished is the yeti 100, and it's basically flat. 50k races on the pinhoti trail beat me up pretty good. If I can make the climb up pinnacle at miles 70- 75, then I'll be confident in finishing.

never fully depend on aid stations. you can plan on using them but have a full back up plan. tunnel hill is easier since they don't have 10+ aid stations but you never know.

yes i'm fully aware of pinhoti trail. Significant other and many friends have run it. I was just giving him a hard time.

Couldn't find the shoe tread so i'll ask here.

Road - Anybody tried a new road shoe and really like it? Not looking for super/race shoe just good everyday use at pace 6:00-9:00 and mileage 5-20. Haven't bought any in a while but also haven't overly like any of my more recent ones besides adios pro 3.

Trail - anyone run in a shoe by VJ? looking at the new MaXX2. has some strong reviews but don't know anyone or really never seen anyone in this brand. I have the newish adidas terrex speed which i really like but not sure it will protect foot for 100k and up. anyone got suggestions? no go on speedgoat or any zero drop altra

My rotation lately has been Asics Gel Nimbus 25 and New Balance Rebel v3. Both can be found pretty cheap lately. No complaints with either but will try something different once they wear out because I just like trying different brands. Still using VF2% for racing. You like low, medium, or high stack? Asics Superblast seems to be all the rage these days. Puma Deviate Nitro 2 is on sale here and there and gets good reviews, been tempting.

I don’t crank out distance like you or these other guys, but I’ve been happy with my Saucony Tempus for training (8:00-10:00 pace) and Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 for faster work (sprints and 7:00-8:00 run pace). Race day shoe is Nike Vaporfly OG. Still haven’t clocked 100 miles on them, yet. I hope to get there this running season.

I came from Brooks Adrenaline GTS as my full time training shoe for years. I can’t believe the difference between those and what I’m in now. It’s like going from running on bricks to running on clouds.

I just switched from my Brooks Ghost to Asics Novablast 4. Feels like it has way more pop without getting into super shoe territory. I like it.

Been using Saucony Triumph 20s for my easy/treadmill runs. Great bc they’re comfy, durable, and can get them for $60-70 on Amazon. Have run anywhere from 3-15 miles at a time in them.

Apparently I’m one of the few who actually liked the Endorphin Speed 3s. All kinds of runs in them- track, tempo, fartlek, long runs. With that said, I’m about to get a pair of the 4s, which I've heard from a couple people are more like the Speed 2s than the 3s were.

Road shoe - I'm currently using Skechers Go Run Ride 10 as a daily trainer. They are neutral with a 5mm drop. I swap these back and forth with Hoka Cliftons.

Trail - I'm an old dog that doesn't like new tricks. Speedgoats probably forever for me.

Whats the difference b/w nova and super blast, besides superblast sell out fast?

ES3, I was one and done. once you try the 4 report back if its more like the 2 and maybe i'll go that route. SO has the triumph 21 and has no complaints but i guess ive haven't run in that heavy/bulky of a shoe in a long time so was hoping to find alternative.

anyone try boston 12?

I am still on my 2nd pair of Speed 2's, I haven't run as much in the past year because I have mixed up workouts with HIIT and the bike. I will probably get some 4's when they go on sale. I got some Endorphin Edge when they dropped in price, more to replace the Peregrine 12s that I have basically worn out with hundreds of miles of hiking and every day nonsense. I probably only ran in those a few times, but they've been perfect for hiking. I also grabbed a pair of Vomero 16 that may or may not suck but they were like 40 bucks at the Nike outlet so I went for it. I think the sole is better made for my wet/ice running days, the speed definitely sucks for those.

I tried on some Nike Streakfly a while back, and I feel like I was bottoming out the sole just hopping around at the store. For that midsole material I guess I need a thicker one. I only weigh 175, it shouldn't bottom out on me. But I love a super light shoe.

Not a whole lot from what I can tell. I've never tried on the supers but the novas have become my daily trainers. They handle everything from long runs to tempo. I haven't tried them for vo2 max reps but I bet they'd be fine for that too

I've been using the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3s for 75% of my runs, Saucony Endorphin Shift 3s (the new Hurricane's are their successor) for Recovery stuff, and Saucony Endorphin Pro 3s for "some" of my interval work... Some, 75% of my Interval / Fartlek / Hill Repeats I still do in the Speeds.

I've heard amazing things about the Boston 11s, but horrible things about the 12s - from what I've heard they screwed up the upper. This was information from 2 people, so it could be a coincidence since it wasn't 3 people, but I respect the opinion of these 2.

I think my next trainer is going to be the Superblast, but I currently have 4 pairs of Speed 3s I need to work through before I can justify that purchase (I bought all of them on 60% off , they are all riding around the 150 mile mark right now)

I hate the Speedgoats, can't stand them. I'm currently repping the Nike Pegasus Trail 5, but am probably more of a fan of the Lone Peak... though that would be a zero drop Altra, so probably not your style.

I've heard really really good things about the Salomon Trail Shoe?

More stack, maybe different foam too. Superblast is supposed to be a true do everything shoe. If you don’t like stack, I’d probably look at something else though. If you like the Endorphin line, maybe check the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Can get them cheap from shoebacca.com

Thanks for the feedback. I'll shop around for nova or superblast. something in me just won't allow me to purchase shoes at full price.

Hopefully it comes back that the ES4 is like the ES2 which I really liked.

i've always like the comfort of nike trail shoes but they suck if its wet!!!!!!

Salomon laces are frustrating. never can get them just right and you can't replace with normal laces b/c the eyelet opening is too small.
