Ran with the varsity group this morning. Keep in mind they start runs typically around 7:30 and my midweek runs start around 5:45. Well the first 3 miles were on the levee and we just roasted. My dog struggled and so was I by mile 5.5. She eventually just decided to lay in the grass and was done. We eventually made it to city park where another runner observed the situation and offered us a ride back to the farmers market. I took them up on that offer because I’m pretty sure my dog was getting close to having a real problem. So my 8 miler turned to 6, but better to keep my dog healthy than worry about mileage.
Lesson learned is to keep my pre sunrise runs and join back up with varsity in the fall.

longest effort in what seems like forever. 19 miles along the Bridger Ridge. 6.2k gain 8.7k descent. lot of technical trail. It's finally hot here. 85 degrees at 8000 ft altitude fully exposed, I wasn't ready for that. foot is still a battle but making the most of it when it somewhat cooperates.

Without going back and reading, what’s the deal with the foot?

This heat makes it hard to keep my HR down. My zone 2 effort generally include some walking. Especially if there are hills.

Same, but that's just part of conditioning. I'm no pro, but just plugging miles in this heat certainly has to translate to faster times in the fall. At least that's part of my plan.

3.5 slow yesterday. 9:01/mile.

I need to add some longer runs in at that pace over the next couple of weeks.

I got my bike tuned up and did 12.6 @ 17.8 on Sunday to just get started back. May try a sprint tri in October.

signing up for the Houston half in late October. Hopefully it is not a repeat of last years weather.

i just need something to push myself towards.

Going to try to turn my 215 PR that I did during the full in Jan to sub 2.

3m 9:45 pace
Tried to step it up a few times just to see how the HR would react at a faster pace and it spiked lol.
Plans will be to shoot for a 9min pace for my first 5k in a couple of weeks without bonking out.

Thunderstorms felt great this AM. Got my 14 miles in. Did a progressive run by pace as my HR monitor was flaking out on me today.

4 miles @ 12:00
5 miles @ 10:30
2 miles @ 10:00
1 mile @ 9:00
1 mile @ 8:30
1 mile @ 8:00

Ran hard. Felt great in the rain.

3miles & 15:00 fast paced walk
2miles alternating between walk and 10:00

Was planning on just walking but felt good and decided to work in some light running and yeah several small showers felt nice

Bought a new pair of shoes yesterday and they made me “fly” this morning.
28:04 5k my fastest time although I have never ran a race and up until last year had never really tracked my times.
Had a goal in my head I wanted to run a 30min 5k but now thinking I may try to push it to 26-27

Afternoon runs down there must be fun. At least you don't have any hills.

I'd take the hills over this humidity. It's looking like it's about to pour for a third time today.

Was planning on doing a speed drill today but my son messed it up, he asked if he could run with me so we did a mile at a 9:20 I was wearing my ruck vest. We then did 1/2 mile running a 6min pace for a min then unload for 2min.
Finished it off with a 3mile ruck with the vest.
Son says he wants to run the 5k I’m gonna run in two weeks and the wife is doing “couch to 5k” both have decided to run on their own just watching me and seeing my progress.

GREAT shoes, once I'm done with my Torins I'll be getting a pair

My new training plan started today, first interval session and I felt GREAT (even in the mid day heat)

My vo2 max estimate also caught back up with my pre-injury today as well. Good day all around

I have been doing HIT training with -1.5 miles of running several days a week during my lunch break all year as well as trying to get my runs in during the hottest part of the day.
It has really seemed to aclimate me to the heat versus years past where I have avoided the hot part of the day.

Today
1 mile run
.5 mile farmer carry with 50#

Morning routine question:

I'm up to my 5 mile run once per week aiming for a half in January. I like to knock my runs out first thing in the morning before the sun is up. I typically wake up, pound 2 cups of coffee and a glass of water then start my run. Is this sustainable as the runs get longer? What's a good morning meal to just get going and not have to wait like 30 min after eating to start your run?
