Nice time! First Marathon complete is a huge accomplishment!

Excellent. Thanks for the feedback. Yeah the price made it a no brainer. Hope it fits true to size, because everything is sold out now.

I’ve heard good things about the Pro 3. Let us know how you like them. Think I’m gonna take my Next% 2 for their first run tomorrow, see what all the fuss is about.

6 miles on the track last night. Feels great outside. Nice to run on a flat track once in a while. Easier to maintain pace and HR. Kept it at a nice 142 HR for the entire time. Noticed that my pace picked up some. Down to 10min/miles.

Easy run this morning felt great in the 50's. Looking forward to my Tempo run Thursday morning with temps in the 40's.

5.5 miles tonight. Tempo run. 5 mins at 130HR, 30 mins at 140HR, and 15 mins at 160+. Feels good out there bros.

Yep, did 4.5 tonight and my HR was 20bpm lower than usual.

Cold feels great, the wind does not.
My Garmin plan has been having me do time trials to set baseline paces for speedwork. Ran into a 10mph headwind this morning which was not great.
Vaporfly’s are good, not as wow’d with them as I thought I’d be, but obviously need more than a 3 mile run in them.
One thing I struggle with is breathing at fast paces. On all of these time trials I have been unable to go faster than 6:10/mile pace. I guess that’s still plenty fast, but that’s also only 1 mile at a time. I feel like I have the fitness to run a sub 20 5k, but running 6:20/mile for 3 miles seems impossible after doing these 1 mile workouts. Any tips or tricks aside from the obvious do more speed work to become accustomed to sustaining faster paces?

This is something I’ve been trying to improve upon as well. Been trying to be more intentional about my breathing patterns when doing interval/tempo work, but unsure if that’s the best way to approach it. Curious to hear what KS, BRM, or any other superior runners on this board can offer.

I've found that I transition from nose breathing to mouth breathing at over 160 HR. I really have to focus on my breathing at the higher HRs.

What do you currently run in, and have you gone to a specialty running store to get fitted? I wear Brooks Ghost but I have good arches and am pretty neutral.

I have super flat feet and ran with ASICS GT2000 for years. When I needed a new pair last year there weren’t any available in store, so I switched to the Altra Paradigm 6 - which are zero drop and love them.
I can put way more miles on a pair of Altra’s than I ever did with the ASICS. The Gt2000’s would seemingly go at 200-300 miles and knee pain would start. I have a pair of altras with 450 on them that are trail/rain shoes now and still haven’t had any issues.
ETA: Hella flat feet and overpronation.

If the wind is blowing, my route reflects it. I've found a few neighborhoods that I can alternate street patterns to have a crosswind. I also plan to go into the wind on the out and with the wind on my return. Makes life so much easier.
That is the only part of winter I don't look forward to is the North wind on a 18-20 mile run. No glove protects my fingers for that long.

I have a lot of mileage on ghost 14's. Its a good show but looking at other options. What is the name of the specialty shoe store in BR if anyone knows?

Varsity on Perkins is always my go-to

Yep, I was into going in and had it at my back going out. Tough for me because I’ve been running at 5am lately and feel safest running on the Marconi path. The longest stretch of it is headed directly north and very close to the lake, so just gonna have to deal with the winds when they come.

5.5 tonight at an average HR of 150. This cooler weather is magic

Did some fartleks tonight at max pace. Noticed that I was running strictly on the balls of my feet. Is that normal? My heels weren’t hitting the ground at all.

Donated blood Wednesday, sluggish today as expected. Not near as bad as when I donate in July though.
