Did some fartleks tonight at max pace. Noticed that I was running strictly on the balls of my feet. Is that normal? My heels weren’t hitting the ground at all.

Yes. Faster paces and sprinting you should be more forward.

The Pro 3’s arrived today, and I have to say I’ve never felt anything quite like it in a shoe before, granted I don’t have a lot of experience with running specific shoes, and this is my first “super shoe”. I’ve never put a shoe on and immediately felt like it just wants to move me forward. Was also pleasantly surprised at how comfortable it feels under foot just walking around. I expected it to be unstable at walking speeds similar to my endorphin speed 2’s, but it feels great on my foot. Only gripe I have with it after trying on, and this was expected based on the reviews I’d read, is that the lacing is a bit of a pain to dial in thanks to the tongue.

I have a 7.5 miler scheduled for tomorrow morning, and I’m wondering if it’s probably smarter to use one of my other shoes for that, and use the pro 3 for the first time on one of my shorter runs next week? Do you guys just go all out with longer mileage in new shoes, or do you gradually break them in?

I broke my next%s in with a 5k time trial. I don't really use them outside of races or TTs. Maybe at first in strides to see how they felt, but that's it. They cost too much for me to put unnecessary mileage on them, lol

Probably best to use a different shoe. Though, if you’re training for a race, I’d want to get at least one longer run in the Pro’s to be sure they’ll work for you over longer distances.

I’m in my second week of training for the LA Half Marathon. Using the Nike Run Club training program. So far so good- had a nice 4 miler this morning. I love the Saturday morning long runs when it is cool and quiet in the neighborhood.

Yeah, went with the nimbus instead this morning. Will start breaking the adios in next week.

Also, I’m thinking it might be time to retire the nimbus and purchase another daily trainer. I think I have just over 300 miles in them, starting to notice a bit of knee discomfort that I haven’t before, and don’t in the endorphins. Thought I’d get more mileage out of them, but I’m a bigger guy at 6’3” and 205 lbs, so maybe that lifespan is about normal? The outsole & upper are still in decent shape, but the ride isn’t as plush anymore I don’t think.

I always change out at 300. Like to try new shoes and typically start getting knee and shin pain around then anyway.

Nice. That makes me feel like I’m probably correct then in thinking it’s about time for a new pair. I think it’s recommended somewhere between 300-500 miles, but I guess being a bigboi puts me closer to the lower range.

Glad you like them, I’m now the proud owner of 3 pairs because i couldn’t say no to adidas’ insane clearance sale. Aside from my occasional treadmill miles, I’m pretty much running exclusively in the AP3; it’s my daily trainer and easy day shoe.

Also, someone mentioned they weren’t impressed with the vaporfly, neither was I.

You might like the new balance supercomp trainer.

it’s a “super shoe” akin to the adios pro 3, but rather than being a marathon racer, it’s a daily trainer.

This is actually top of my list so far, and will definitely be trying it. I’m also curious about the more v4, but I believe it uses the same foam compound that they use in the 1080v12, and when I tried that shoe back in the spring it didn’t have that sort of squishy bouncy feeling I was after…and after trying the rebel v2 just a few weeks ago I really liked that Fuelcell foam in it, which is what’s used in the Supercomp I believe. Also want to try the Novablast 3 since I know I like the flytefoam blast + that’s in the nimbus, and because everyone is raving about it. But when I tried the Novablast 2 it felt sort of awkward for me, and really slapped my foot down just walking. Would really like to try the Adidas Prime X Strung high stack, but I’m afraid I’ll like it and just can’t justify spending $300 on one pair of shoes.

But yeah, short list for new daily trainer:
NB Supercomp
Asics Novablast 3
Asics Glideride 3
Puma Deviate Nitro 2

If all else fails I’d happily buy another nimbus 24, I really enjoyed it.

the supercomp is the most special/super shoe on your list. So, even if you tried the novablast or glideride and loved it, I think you'd still be curious about the supercomp. Might as well just start with the supercomp.

I haven't tried the prime x strung yet, but the original prime X is the only shoe that I can't run in due to stability issues. I didn't make it a quarter mile in them before taking off my pair and shipping back to running warehouse. I'm curious to try the strung version as well, as many reviewers have said it helps solve the instability, but at $300/pair with no discounts available, I'm not interested (especially considering I just picked up two pairs of adios 3 @ $120 each).

believe in the run did a good comparison of the NB supercomp trainer and the prime x strung. in a nutshell, they said the prime x is magical when going fast, but that's about all you can do. the supercomp is more versatile and overall a better value.

I love the adios pro 3 and I really like the supercomp, I definitely think it should be your first choice for a daily trainer. Your other option is to get a second pair of AP3. Adidas.com is sold out, but eastbay has a decent amount of sizes for $150. I'd much rather spend $150 on another pair of AP3 than $130 on the novablast.

I’m also a fan of the BITR gang, but somehow missed that between two shoes. Will check it out.

Anyone with the novablast 3? Do the sizes run the same as Nikes?

Two things to help you out-
1. Adidas typically laces the shoes outside in from the factory, making them difficult to adjust. Undo the laces and re-lace traditional inside out.
2. I went a step further and swapped out the laces altogether for some that are softer and stretchier, and that has helped as well.

Today was the first day I went out with them. Felt great under foot. Like little pogo sticks. I’ll need to really tighten them down next time. They were a bit too loose once I started moving.

Strangely I saw a comment on Reddit referring to that exact outside in lacing adidas uses from the factory, but they were shipped to me inside out. What laces do you recommend? I was thinking about buying some new laces for the endorphin speeds anyway.

It’s been a while since I’ve tried on a nike, but traditionally I aways felt like they ran a bit small. My asics nimbus fit my foot true to size in a size 13, but I also want to say that a couple reviews I’ve watched re: the Novablast 3 said they felt like they ran a bit long? I did try on the Novablast 2’s in a 13, and they felt true to size.

I would try one of two things:
1. check your other shoes, and see if any have stretchy laces. I find it easier to get an initial lockdown that stays in place with stretchy laces (the stock laces have zero stretch). I currently have a pair of alphafly laces in one of my adios pros and they work well.

2. for max lockdown, try the new balance bubble laces. these things are thick and will not move. nb laces link

Eta- Did a treadmill run yesterday with my AP3 and played around with a few different lacing combos- the NB laces gave me, by far, the best lockdown.

5K TT today, 4 weeks out from Turkey Trot. 19:37. Not terrible. I usually breakdown pace wise throughout a 5K, but held it relatively consistent today. May be on track to shatter my 19:15 PR. Not bad for just starting back on running focused training in August. Was on the bike April-Aug. Feeling good.
