10 weeks out from Honolulu Marathon, just had a solid 11 miler over the weekend 9:00/mile pace at a 3/10 intensity.

You run with a HR monitor? Curious to see what that translates to.
My target HR is 140 on my long runs which is incredibly slow for me. I expect this pace to improve as the weather cools.

so based on the 3/10 intensity level what is your planned finished time, sub 3hr?

Any former smokers here that still ran while they smoked? Was there a drastic improvement in your output when you quit? I still smoke just shy of half a pack per day.
One of the reasons I initially started running again was hoping that would give me a kick up the arse to really take quitting seriously, instead I’ve just adapted.

Can’t offer much insight as I’ve never been a smoker. Only advice I’d offer is try to quit.

Anyone running Chicago this weekend? Weather looks infinitely better than last year.

I smoked roughly a pack a day from age 16-28. Started running at age 29 (I’m 32 now). The handful times I ran while I still smoked, I felt like my lungs were on fire. shite was absolutely miserable. I’m sure you can relate to this.
Quitting smoking was the best thing I ever did, with starting to run regularly being right behind it. Not only is running not absolutely miserable, but I now thoroughly enjoy it. Honestly I can’t imagine not doing it now. Best of luck quitting

Ps, I got the endorphin speed 2’s in the other day thanks to the code from the poster on here. Have only put about 8 miles on them, but they are definitely quicker than my nimbus 24’s, and lighter. Not as comfortable, as the Nimbus, but should be perfect for the pick up the pace days. They are weird in the heel just walking around in, but running and landing mid to fore no issues. I did also try the NB rebel v2, and those had amazing step in feel. Probably fit my foot a bit better than the endorphin’s tbh, and lighter, but I felt like they were too close in feel to the nimbus daily trainer category, and decided to go with the more firm & bouncy endorphins…but if I see those rebel v2’s get discounted massively at some point I might snag.

Not sure if he is still around here but Burt Reynolds is an ex smoker and a superior runner. Not sure if he smoked at all while running though.

Running the Northshore 10 miler tomorrow, strictly as a training run. Spent most of the summer on the bike, as I had a century ride up in Austin planned for the end of the month. Friends flaked out, so now I’m trying to build up running fitness.
No real goal, other than to feel strong at the end. Will plan to negative split from around 7:45-6:50 ish.
And I had my first run in the Endo Speeds today also. Very nice shoe. I also own the Reb v2 and the though I love them, the Speeds seem alot more versatile. They were a steal for $75.

Hey man - went about the way I expected, 7:33 pace, around 1:15:00. I couldn’t find the extra gear to negative split it like I would have liked, but that’s just a product of basically zero speed work and only about 4-5 weeks of consistent running after a months long layoff/cycling training. It’s a decent benchmark now that I’m back to running full time.
Deciding if I want to do La. or not. My only hiccup is I’m going to Jamaica the week after Thanksgiving and I’m not naive enough to believe that I will be banging out tempo/long runs on the treadmill at the resort. I may look for another full in Feb. Didn’t you say you prefer 8 week plans for 26.2? I’ve only ever done 20’s, but would love more info on that. 20 is just too damn long. Any 8 week plans online that you prefer; or do you just make your own?

How many miles are you Bros getting on Vaporfly 4% and/or Next %? My VF’s have about 180 and N% like 160. Neither seem to have the same pop at faster/racing paces. Just a lack of responsiveness. Or maybe I just forgot what they felt like? I may look into a new racer.

Are you wearing them for speed work or just races?

thats a solid time! as far as getting ready for LA marathon in mid January it will depend on your finish goal, honest assessment of your current run fitness level and then based on that if you want to put in the work. 16-20 week plans don't work for me b/c I sit around 45-60 miles a week in general. With that base I feel I can focus for a marathon and be ready in 8-10 weeks. I'm considering philly marathon on nov 20th which would be 10 weeks from my failed attempt at superior 100. my legs are coming around be not where they should be 6 weeks out. i'll give it another week or 2 and make decision then. if its a no go LA may be on the table.
VF life - I have one pair that I raced 2 marathons, a 50k, and 50 miles of daytona 100. I also ran another 50k training in them. they still have some life but I wouldn't race in them or even really use for speed work. Newer pair has only been used for 50 miles at badwater and I race whatever comes up next in them. if used only for racing (half/full marathon) I'd think you should get 150-200 before noticing any real difference.

Just races. I have a few shoes I use for speed work/ (Rebel v2, Speeds, Floatride Run Fast). I told myself I would wear out what I have before buying any more shoes... but here I am just bought a pair of Speeds last week. I think I'm content for now, have the Turkey Trot on the calendar on Thanksgiving but not really a usecase for a plated shoe in a 5K. Not a brand new one at least. I think I'll be patient and not buy a racer until beg of '23 at least, unless a 10K or longer pops up.

Right, that all makes sense. I don't maintain as high of mileage as you generally, so I would probably need a little longer of a plan. I think I will shoot for another sub 20 Turkey Trot (been a year or so since I've run a sub 20), go to Jamaica the week after and then ramp up a 14 week plan after. Actually always wanted to try this plan (below). It's nothing groundbreaking as it's the meat and potatoes of any Marathon plan. It's just structure, which I like. I prob wouldn't shoot for sub 3 of course as that's a little far fetched, but I think 3:15-3:20 is realistic. 3:27 is my PR, but I left a bit on the table in that race, as my last 10K was negative split and my fastest 10K of the race.
Looking at Napa Valley Marathon in early March. Always wanted to run that course.

I would plan to run more than 3 days a week, with some easy days mixed in, even though the plan only calls for 3, I'd go crazy if I only did something 3 days a week.

Did you guys see Connor Mantz yest at Chicago run a 2:08 in his debut? Love that dude. I hope he's the next legit US Marathoner. Rupp is still it for now I guess.

Saw that - very hopeful for him. And Em Sisson with a women’s record right? Saw she raced in New Balance Supercomp Pacer which is their low stack plated shoe. Bucking the trend.
