2.0 hrs even for the half I put in with the run group this AM. First time over 10 miles in a month or so. Felt WAY better in my hip than it has been. Never felt hindered. Still doing the daily mobility deal.

Last mile was my fastest. Felt great to be outside and with my group again. Bham Track Club btw in case anyone is ever in Bham and needs an 8-16 mile run on Saturday AM.

Hey Roots, if we didn’t live in different states, we could’ve gotten in 18 together this a.m.

Hope the WRM guys had good races. Conditions in AR weren’t ideal for a marathon this morning. 100% humidity with temps climbing into the mid-60s by the end of my run.

No doubt!

And yeah, horrible conditions here too. Was 75 @ 100% humidity by the end. I would have started much earlier but I did the group thing as it covered a good chunk of the La Course. Couldn’t pass up the opportunity to run the course.

I see hb banged out a sub 3.

BRM DNFed Dropped at the half. I was miserable. HB had a big PR and RS had a great run.

It was pretty gross. I gambled went out hard and it didn’t work out. Instead of limping home like the guy that should have won it did (he was shooting 2:23 and finished over 3), I dropped and cheered all the folks I knew.

Saw that 1:12 first half, 1:49 second half. Crazy.

Thanks again for helping me pull through those last few miles. Definitely made a big difference!

Dang, that’s a rough 2nd half for that guy. I’m definitely putting WRM on the to do list.

Looks like you guys got your marathon in just in time. I’m on deck for MGCM, but starting to feel really pessimistic it goes in person.

Finally a legit recovery day. 6 miles at the local high school track. Average HR 149. Stopped at mile three and stretched real good. Wrapped it up with an icy cold Sierra Nevada. Feels great out there. Enjoying it while I can.

Speaking of Miss Gulf Coast, if you are thinking about running the full and haven't registered site says it is FULL. Still have spots open for the half.
I waited too long so won't be running. Was gun shy about registration fee after losing fees for Badwater 135 and Superior 100.

Couple things from the race experience --->

Looking back at my plan I can happily commit to doing more & doing it better. Like KsNola said, 1st marathons are a benchmark.

Stretching, cross training, nutrition & rest was an investment during training. I was not wobbling or in pain during the flight back. Felt like I ran a long way, nothing more & nothing less. This was with a 2.5 hour drive & delayed flight.

Talking to a bunch of cool normal people before and after, here was a summary of their marathon journey: 1st was learning, 2nd was fun, 3rd was fast.

The people at my hotel who had really bad experiences didn't respect the distance or training. It was not an enjoyable day or day after for them.

And finally , running is running... Like BRM said as he helped me get to finishing corral...hundreds of normal men & women out here who have worked for months trying hard & this is their reward.

Thanks for the input, RS. You should feel accomplished.

Now that I've decided to do the La. Full, it doesn't look like MGC1/2 is in the cards for me. My most important long run of the cycle (22) is that weekend and I want to stick to the plan as much as possible. As much as I want to, racing that weekend doesn't fit the bill.

I think something that was critical for me and different from my first rave, I took in hydration almost every chance I got. I think that plus Burt got me through the last few miles strong.

I'm with you Roots ...my daughter's Christmas play was just moved to the MGC weekend so I'm officially out.

I will check to see if La Half fits into my plan.

Are you running the Village 2 Village 10k in March? Just began preparation. I ran 10k for the first time on Saturday with a time of just over 52 minutes after running exclusively 5k for about a year now. Not sure what my goal time is yet for the race, I'll keep training and decide sometime soon. Looks like it will be a fun race.

Pretty sure I took in no hydration at my first rave!

So was Burt able to actually run the course with y'all and help out, or was it just from the sidelines?

I have no clue how to handle training this week with the Turkey Trot 5K smack dab in the middle of it. Tomorrow is scheduled 5 X 8:00 intervals, so no way I'm fully recovered from that 36 hours later, right? It's not like I'm planning to set a 5K PR, but the goal is always to race as fast as I can. Wondering if I should just go easy miles M-W and treat the race as my workout day.

Roots,

He waited around and was walking up the road & found me at about mile 23.

He ran my last miles with me in a jacket with a bag on his back.

I thought it was a mirage or some trout fisherman who was lost...lucky for me it was BRM haha
