I think I'm weird because I can't run with headphones or music. I find it more annoying than anything.

I enjoy listening to music. I usually have it on almost all other times.

Same here. Might be more bc of where I run, but I like to be completely aware of my surroundings - people, bikes, cars, street cars. I suppose if I ran trails or neighborhood streets I might listen to music on my runs.

Not weird. I know a number of runners that don't run with headphones or music, and they are all faster than me. Maybe there's something to it.

I converted to Aftershockz almost two years ago and I'm sticking with it. I only listen to podcasts, almost exclusively comedy podcasts, when I run and no music at all. So maybe I'm the weirdo.

Used to be the same way, but the opposite now. I feel like being able to hear my breathing/cadence helps. And also hearing my competition gasping for air as fuel! Haha

Saw that shite huh? Wasn’t he a Doctor and punched a woman? She must have got in his path while he was banging out 800’s, threw off his pace and it sent him into a rage!

Cat calls? I look like a fricking serial killer. Nobody wants a piece of this. Gross face, hot body. Sigh.

Anyhow, keep getting requests for “hey man, think I can run with you?” It really has become my biggest pet peeve. I try to explain in the nicest way that when you’re asking to run with me, but won’t meet at my location, at my time, and at my pace, it’s like asking someone out but expecting the person you asked out to take care of the bill. So I have to say no because I prefer running alone and people get bitchy at me. So weird.

It’s like instead of working really fricking hard, they think they they’ll just get better by osmosis or something. Also seems to me that if you can’t run by yourself, you might not like running. I’m not your frickin baby sitter, bud. Rant off.

I prefer running alone for the same reason.

I’ll run with someone with the understanding that it’s my pace, and they can get dropped or they can drop me.

Side note: forecast has me nervous. Still might change.

I can't stand the thought of running with someone else. I'd just be self conscious the whole time or thinking about pace constantly instead of just zoning out.

I think I subconsciously started running because it’s my time by myself and not having to deal with people.

When I run with my group, the people with the same pace stick together. I guess The group runs are usually track work or the long Sunday runs. On track work it’s fun because you push each other. Long Sunday it’s nice to chat with people. The problem is having to drive to meet up and run when some days, it’s just easier to run from your front door.

That’s what running groups are for, running with other people. I’m talking strictly about people that could run in a running group, and do, but choose to bother me as well who rarely runs in a group like I’ve got the magic solution to their lack of Q sessions.

I used to do the long group run every once in a while until Covid, but also don’t miss it much because sometimes there would be folk that decided they’d want to swing dicks and ruin the pace. It’s pretty competitive around here and there are some guys that are plenty fast enough to ruin a good long run. I usually resist to urge to drop the whole frickin lot and hammer down to make any/everyone that goes with me suffer.

Due to the competitiveness, the whole group would typically go and try to keep up if the measuring tape comes out which would lead to me running between paces (“garbage” pace) and most of them running their marathon tempo. Doing shite like that will overtrain ya depending on your training that week so I don’t bother most of the time.

Usually when I group run, I’ll hang a the back of the pack. It’s really weird around here because it’s small enough for everyone to know everyone else’s running business. There’s lots of “so and so ran a...”, or people will come up to me and go “man, I heard you ran a...” and I’ll not know who the frick that person is. Also, I couldn’t care less how fast some other dink ran a race. I don’t have time to care, lol. I primarily racing against the clock.

No, I get what you were saying. Sometimes when asked if they could run with me, I say, we have a group that runs at ____ at 5am to avoid that.

Ran a local 5K today. Nice to run with some ‘normal’ people again and not the psychos in the track club. New PR at 23:46. Good for a top 25 outa 150. Same pace last weekend in the 10K wouldn’t crack top 200.

Main reason I don’t run with a group. I hhave to drive 10 minutes and it doesn’t start until 6. Or I can just go out the front door at 530 and not have to worry any of that. I maybe do 1-2 group runs a year. I’m probably a psycho for preferring to run alone, but I’ll own it.
