Thanks y'all. Time to start thinking about training and goals. Also, the overall logistics of the whole mess. Since it'll be my only marathon of the year, I should be pretty fresh if I stay healthy.

That’s awesome man, congrats!

My only suggestions:
Don’t worry about your time. Enjoy the spectacle that it is and the people who support it.
Go to the Expo Thursday evening if you can get in early enough. Friday morning is another option. I saw pictures of Friday and Saturday afternoon and it looked like a madhouse.
Stay as close to Central Park as you can afford.
Take the Ferry, not the bus.

Run group was small this AM. It was barely 40 degrees this morning with rain and a little sleet. Surprised anyone showed up really!

Anyway, got 8 miles in at a pace slower than I typically run. It was nice to run and talk to people and just enjoy a run with dedicated people.

It feels good after a run like that knowing you put miles In that others wouldn’t.

Thanks, guys!

Great advice BTW

LOL, no. Ask around, they'll tell you I can't help but obsess over beating myself up over time and goals. It's still great advice; I will not be able to follow it.

TR ran a fast 10k this morning. I think he's really only got a few months until he's back to where he was before the stroke.

Good job TR!

That sounds great. I wimped out and didn't run this morning. While the sun is out, the roads aren't the best and it is 18° outside. Tomorrow is supposed to be the same or slightly better than today, so maybe I'll be better motivated with time.

Nice 5K PR this morning, Burt

Make sure your training involves elevation. About 800 total feet of elevation throughout the marathon. Most of any major.

It’s really easy to shite out early because of that especially when you start off the first mile on a bridge

Seven miles in 59:23 (8:29/mile pace). I am very pleased with today's run, although I must admit it was a challenge. I felt as if I had heavy legs and was battling the some wind for a good bit of the run. I also drank a little too much last night

Next week looks like:
Monday - 4
Tuesday - 2
Wednesday - 3
Saturday - 8

I'll have to pace myself at a Mardi Gras ball next Friday to be able to run a good eight miles on Saturday.

Thanks y'all! 8k this morning ran a 27:20. That would have won last year by 7 seconds. Same song, second verse gets me third this year. First 5k was 17:06 which I'm pretty proud of.

Oh yeah, top 3 were 38, 37, and 38 years old. Us old dudes showing em what's up.

Nice job as usual, Burt! Thank y’all for the props also. 43:43 official chip time. I negative split the back half, which was my goal. To build confidence if nothing else. Felt pretty good the whole race. 41:03 is my PR from last April, wasn’t fooling myself into thinking or even trying to best that.

That said, gonna start sprinkling in some 5K specific workouts for the Shamrock 5K on March 14. PR’d it last year at 19:15. We’ll see how the training goes, may be able to touch it. Then on to the CCC 10K Easter weekend. Anything longer distance will likely be in the Fall. Good racing today!

Finally got home, road closures are a bitch.

Ran the Rock’N Roll 10k, was shooting for a sub 50 and pulled a 47:33. Still learning a lot about myself running-wise and testing my limits, but things are trending up. Think my last 10k was around 53min and the one before that 1:08 (first race ever to be fair). Onward and upward we go!

Had a shitty Rock n Roll 1/2 today. 2:12 in what should have been the race that broke 2:00. I was well on the way until my body quit during mile 9. It’s the first time I ever did any walking in any race.

Not really sure why. Probably a combo of no sleep and very little training this week because of a sick child and no sleep last night (hotel A/C unit was above our hotel room-rumbled and ran all night). And having trained in 40F for the past few weeks didn’t translate well to 60-65F and decent humidity.

Hell-this is the first time I’ve ever had any real blisters after a race.

Just a bad day.

Everybody gets humbled at some point. Today it was me.

Other race notes:

New Orleans and/or this race has the market cornered on cute redheads.

If you’re not going to shower before a race, at least wash your arse and your armpits and put on some deodorant. No one wants to smell your rancid-onion arse and pits on the race course, especially at only the third mile.

I've got a tough week coming up. I will be working an hour away from my house every day. The extra hour drive stinks for getting a run going.
